Has Anyone Heard About This Onkyo "Flashback" Yet?

These look very cool:

Apparently, they made an announcement that these three separate components have a "retro" look to mimic the appearance of their hi fi gear from the '80s. The amp has the classic VU meters like the old Integras and Onkyos, but surprisingly, it's only rated at 80 watts a channel...I thought I MAY have found a power upgrade to connect to my TX-8555 stereo receiver but alas, it has less power...

The preamp and CD player look nice too.

These pieces look nice, don't they sholl? Pretty expensive, too...

Did you hear about these?
The first high-end separates that I ever listened to was a complete Mac rig in a faux(?) black marble rack back about 1975-76. I just sat there completely enthralled by the sight and sound. I've wanted one ever since.

I have not heard these. I stay out of stereo stores - not that we have better than a Sears within 40 miles of me. ;)

There is another thread about the amplifier:

And yes, it does seem to be overpriced.
I wasn't aware of that, Py -- thanks.

However, there is still the preamp and CD player to talk about...

Yeah, where are they getting the nuts big enough to ask these prices for these pieces? I thought the A-9555 was a bit pricey for an integrated -- but the prices on these separates are ridiculous.

I wonder if the CD player included in the news about this trio is any different, or better, than the one that was released to be the companion piece to the A-9555...

Well, I wasn't asking if you literally heard them with your own ears in a shop -- I just meant have you heard ABOUT these yet...;)

I know what you mean about the stereo shops -- I, like you, am on the west coast as well, and the closest you're gonna get to a "hi fi dealer" is Frys...
