Harmony One Advanced or Harmony 880

I have been looking into a "universal" remote for all my equipment ( yamaha rx-v863/panasonic 50" TH77 plasma/panasonic bd something blue ray/scientific atlanta hd cable box) and from what I have read so far the Logitech Harmonies are the way to go based on user friendly and overall compatibility.

Question is Harmony one or Harmony 880. Amazon is getting rid of the harmony 880 for $120 +/- or the harmony one advanced for $180+/-

Any and all opinions are more than welcome!!!

Cheers

The button layout on the "One" is much nicer than the 880.
That sound trivial, but I never got used to using my 550 in the dark without constantly turing on the glow button.

Thanks NoMo,

Is either remote more or less functional than the other? I think the One is more advanced than the 880 but not quite sure. I also do not know if this One works with an RF transmitter or directly with each individual device.

Have you used both?

The One really doesn't actually do much more than the 550.
It's just a bit more convenient because of the buttons. it also has a recharger, which of course the 880 has as well.

Don't forget about the color LCD screen on the Harmony one.
One thing I believe they say they fixed between the 880 and the One is the fact that the charging cradle on the 880 was less than secure in that you might set the remote to charge and find out a slight movement dislodged it and it may have never charged whereas the One has a much more positive engagement that is pretty much fool-proof.

To be fair I had the 550 and due to a freak accident with a recliner mechanism, I recently took the opportunity to upgrade to the Harmony One. Really liked the 550. It was very unobtrusive and the most like a regular remote than some of the other Harmony's, but the One really is very nice! I'm definately not upset that I upgraded.

I had my 880 for a couple years and never did LOVE it. The buttons started wearing out after a year (a friend had the same thing happen so it's more than a single isolated incident I guess) which was dissapointing. I've been looking at the One as a replacement/upgrade from my 880. For the moment, I retired the 880 and am using the remote that came with my new Onkyo...I like it way better than my 880 b/c it's more responsive. It may not be as powerful, but I enjoy pressing a button and getting instant satisfaction instead of the 1/2 second delay in the command being sent.

All in all, I'd go for the One over the 880 in a heartbeat.

Get the One, it's much nicer than the 880, and the button layout is much better, and having a nice color touch screen with so many programming options is just unbeatable.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!!!

I purchased my Harmony One Advanced last night on Amazon for 150.00. Regular price was on sale for 180 and I signed up for a amazon credit card which was good for another 30 dollars off. Purchase, pay, cancel card!!! yay me!

Cheers

I much prefer the touch screen to the hard buttons... you can adjust the touchscreen sensitivity if it's too sensitive for your liking.

I can't see them doing much more with these remotes, except maybe adding RF capability to the 'One' and maybe a couple of lower models.
At MSRP they should have RF..but with a good discount they are a hard to beat IR remote.
The biggest complaints seem to be ergonomics...but in a way that's a compliment to everything else the Harmonys do well.

I'd be happy if they simply put the dvd controls over the directional pad like my cable remote. It would also be nice if they had dedicated a-b-c buttons like the cable remote. One of the harmonys have an a and b button...

I have an 880. I was fortunate enough to get a good one. Seems there was a lot of lemons out there for a while. Several complaints including batteries going bad prematurely and the unit itself not sitting in the charging cradle correctly. Again, I have had no such trouble with mine. That being said though, I would buy the newer One model as reviews are great. Better layout of controls, larger buttons, easier to read, and a touchscreen for events/devices. The one was not available when I purchased my 880 from Dell...$119 new limited time deal...I could not refuse at that price.

I wish Dell had those deals on the 'One'...I got my 880 from them too.

Harmony One Advanced = PEACE:D

I set up my harmony one advanced and am continuing to make adjustments with there very easy to use software package and this thing rocks!!! Takes over even the most technical applications from all my other remotes and is easy enough for my G/F to use...

Speaking of the One, has anyone gone it yet and tried to create custom buttons and such?
