harmon kardon avr 635 keeps shurting off

Soo I got myself a harmon kardon avr 635 hooked it all up turned it on stayed on for a good 10 minutes soon as I touched the volume it shut right off so I disconnected everything on the receiver thinkin it was a short plug it in and it turns on click then shuts right off click keeps doing this so I opened it up and did some playing around I disconnected two wires one for the volume knob light and fan and something else powered it up stayed on plug back in the unit shuts off again


so I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem would be seems odd is it worth fixing?

Still sounds like something is shorting out. How do you have your speaker wire connected? Bare wire or banana plug? If bare wire, is there any chance some of the wires are touching each other? If you've tried all the external connections and cant find the source of the short, I'd return the unit. I wouldn't play around inside it anymore lest you void your warranty.

I doubt there's a warranty on a pre hdmi rec'r but there is a processor reset procedure in the manual. Try that.

There is no warranty bought used worked when I bought it brought it home and just keeps shutting off and of course the guy wouldnt give me my money back I tried resetting it but it wont complete the reset

If there is no warranty then you could try removing the top and see if it is really dirty/dusty inside, just make sure it is unplugged before doing anything.

I would presume from your response that you tested it at the seller's home and it worked?

If so, I doubt it picked up enough dirt or dust to shut it off. So, either your speakers, unless you also bought that as well from the receiver seller, has an issue, the speaker wiring is shorting somehow, or something else, of course.
What are the speakers and how are they connected?
Just out of curiosity, why did you disconnect the wires inside?

Assuming the unit worked and you tested it at the seller's house.
Did you happen to have the unit turned on while you hooked it up at your house?

In that case if you have enough "on" time to do a processor reset, try it, otherwise it needs to be checked out by a technician. Depend on the repair cost and the length of any sort of warranty, it may not be worth fixing. I guess I am stating the obvious, unfortunately.
