Harman Kardon hkts14 or bose acoustimass 16?

Hi guys,
I bought a Harman Kardon aver240 receiver and the Bose Acoustimass 16 sytem.
After a few replies from previous posts everyonee has been bashing the Bose system.
Now everything is in the box still so I can return if I would like. What I am wondering is if the HK hkts14 home theater speakers are any good? Or the HK hkts8? Since I bought the HK receiver I figured maybe I can continue with Hk.
I like the look of it and both are pretty cheap
What i am wondering is if it is comparable to the Bose system or not at all. Does it even come close to the Bose system?
And which of the Hk home theater speakers are better the hkts14 or the hkts8... Or none at all for that matter...
Will they integrate better with my Hk receiver then the bose acoustimass 16 or it doesnt make a difference? And lastly the hkts14 is a 5.1 system and I am wondering if i would be able to add more speaker eventually to make this system a 6.1 or a 7.1 ...
Thank you

HT speakers

Youyou,
The HK receiver is a good start for your HT. Manufactures including HK, Yamaha, Pioneer, Sony, etc. are known for manufacturing electronics and not speakers and I wouldn't recommend any of the HK speaker systems.

I would also assert that you will get superior performance from a 5.1 (or even 2.1) bookshelf system then from 7 cheap satellite speakers.
Check your previous thread for some speaker suggestions and also post a budget, room description, etc. for more recommendations.

If you like small satellite stuffs then go w/ bose. It's best in that category.
HK sat can't match the bose. You have to take it home hook them all up and compare. Go find some places have the 30days return policy.

If you like the small satellites, go with Infinity. They make small speakers that will be better than both.

ROFL.

If you like small satellites, go wit Hsu.

Add a subwoofer from Hsu and I guarantee it will out perform BOTH of those systems.

I have the HKTS3 and 7, and I don't have any complaints so far since it is my startup HT. At least I don't have Bose at home, that's all that matters to me. If you insist on small satellite speakers, I'd say go with the Infinity Modulus II or Hsu Ventriloquist (VT12).

Why tiny speakers?
There are some exceptions (although I can't think of any in the mass market) but in most cases those little 2" and 3" drivers need to cross to the bass unit at a frequency that is too high to prevent locatability of the bass frequencies.

.....YouYou, you stack that Bose system against anybody's HTIB, and it's probably going to be the Bose system....what has been "meant" here, is look at the total cost of the Bose system, and then think in terms of an alternate system that could be constructed....if the compactness of the Bose cubes and player was what got the little woman to say yes, you might as well carry on, but I warn you, there's a good chance it will never sound like what it did in the store under ideal conditions.....if you can think in terms of 5 main's regiment speakers and a cheap sub to start with, with maybe a hard-hitting Harmon Kardon 635 pushing maybe 4 ohm speakers, the Bose system will be sent outside to do the wash, Mister.........

If you want small and good.. I would recommend these:

Kef KHT2005.2 system (comes with great sub good for both music and theater)

Energy ACT6 (great musical reproduction for sats, sub is a little small.. but can always upgrade later my favorite pick as most accurate)

Definitive Technologies ProMonitor 100 setup (Great for theater not AS good at music as energy)

Mordaunt Short avant 902i system (you would have to pick the pieces but great bang for buck)
personal fav is the energy.. but i highly recommend you listen to them first.

They are SO much better than the Bose it's not even funny.. and if you wanna spend a little more Energy has the new TAKE stuff which rocks.

Thank you guys all so much for the info and suggestions.
The set up guy is coming tommorow to set everything up. I have a 30 day gurantee at future shop and if I am not impressed with the sound then I will just give them back.
I will definitely look into all the suggestions you wonderful people have made...
The Bose system was 1799$ at future shop and the salesmen let it go for 1100$ . That is in Canadian funds by the way...
The guys there know me pretty well and so they usually give me great prices.
So that would be my budget really... 1100/1200$ Canadian. You see the good thing is with Future Shop I can put it on 12 months financing no payment no interest... And after spending soo much money on the new Panasonic 50" and all the other stuff it's much more convenient for me to slap the system on a 12month interest free finance...
Again though if the system is not to my liking I will definitely give it back.
On another note I purchased the Harman Kardon AVR240 at future shop as well which cost me 899.99$ plus tax (canadian) which came out to just a little over 1000$. Came home and browsed the net. i found it on etronics for 490$ Canadian shipped to my house tax in duties in.... That is insane I couldnt believe it. Ordered it right away and went back to future shop to return it. It just boggles me mind howb much more it was at future shop...
So to any fellow canadians do you research on the net before going out and spending that much dough.
One question i have is what is the difference really between say the HK AVR240 or the HK AVR340 or the HK AVR635. I bought the 240 and kind of feel left out that i didn't get the better models. Are they that much better?? Do they have much more features? Was is really the difference.
Thank you all again for listening to me and helping me out.

lower end hk receivers are ok, i have the 335 and it works well for my bookshelf fronts, but if you ever want to get larger speakers id definately get a higher model.

i look back and wish i would have gotten the 635 instead of my 335. i plan on getting larger fronts, probobly the m80's from axiom. And, even though im going to get monoblocks to power them, i still want to purchase a better receiver.

as for features, its not that much better, just more power, and it will probobly sound a little better.
the 635 does has video upconversion to component though.

and 335 and up have the auto eq.. not sure if your 240 has that,.. probobly does though.
