Harman Kardon AVR254 setup

Hello,

Noob here. Help would be greatly appreciated since trying to setup the system has already costed me few years of life :)
Got some equipment from the neighbor that was moving out... But no luck in making it work.
I have, Harman Kardon AVR254, Klipsch SUB-12 subwoofer and DiVinci souround speakers (5 + 1 subwoofer).
Now, my plan was to connect the receiver to my computer via stereo jack (for the beginning) for listening to music (mostly).
So far what ever I tried I could't get any sound from anywhere.
I have connected only two speakers (left and right) and sub via LFE connection (single cable). On the receiver I have selected AUX stereo jack.
Setup screen and million options on the AVR254 screen is more than confusing...
Any suggestion on where to start.
All I need is to get the sound to my speakers, no TV connection, no DVD or anything, only computer.
I know this is not much of information but had to start somewhere.
I tried to attach 3 photos (1.5mb each) but I received the message that file is too large???

Thank you...

Try resizing the photos before uploading or use a photo hosting site and link to that.

I'd start with a download of the manual if you didn't get a printed version from your neighbor. Then the first thing I'd do is look up how to reset the avr, if available, to return all settings to factory defaults. Then I'd familiarize myself with the manual's setup instructions. Then I'd ask questions if I got stuck...

Hi. I will try to resize photos (I already tried once).
I did read the manual (multiple times) but for the most part it was hard to understand for untrained mind. I figured out some basic stuff but setting it up correctly using on screen options was too much.
I am not home now but I will try to reset it to factory settings.
It's more complicated than I expected...

You may also not have enough posts for the pics, forget how many posts in you need to be. Pics may or may not help.

As far as connecting the pc as source to your avr, what connector did you use? A 3.5mm to dual rca cable? You may need to tell the avr that your source for that particular input is analog if it doesn't do that automatically. Or was it an hdmi connection or ? Your on-screen options are being displayed on a tv or the front panel of the avr?

Terminology can be a sticking point, tho. Ask specific questions about what you're not understanding.

I have two options to connect 3.5mm jack or dual RCA cable.
On-screen options are on the front panel of the AVR.
I will try what you suggested and see if I can switch it to analog.
I wish I could ask a specific question but the trouble at this time is I don't know what I don't know.
I don't know how to make AVR recognize that I have connected speakers or AUX stereo jack as a source of sound...
Thank you for trying to help.

Search your manual for input assignment would be one way to look for how to tell your avr what type of source (analog in this case) you've connected for a particular input. It shouldn't matter if it's a front panel or rear panel set of rca inputs as long as you use the appropriate input selection. Briefly looking at the manual on manualslib.com seems basic instructions are on page 26.

I assume you've got the pc setup correctly for output of audio through your headphone jack or rca outs.
