Whether you're in the USA or not, I wish you all a wonderful day and hope that you get to spend it however you want - with friends, family, or just relaxing alone.

Niki and I have our regular lunch planned - a plate of turkey for each of us. I think that I'll warm up some ham to top it off, but just a little bit.

I put my turchicken in the oven at 4:30 this morning as it is now the t-giving tradition, the entire house smells of roasting poultry, the way it should be...
I didn't take pics of the process this time, there are some pics of last years and the years before on here somewhere, my phone was all the way up stairs and I am lazy...

My favorite time of year.

All my family is probably hitting the road about now for the trip to our house. I am starting the meats now and Carolyn did the pies last night. Everyone else is assigned one dish to bring. There should be around 25 of us this year and there is always plenty of leftovers.

First Thanksgiving as a married couple - enjoy! Good time to catch up with any relatives that didn't make it to the wedding. Or weren't invited.

I have the 24 lb'r in the oven and all sides ready to cook up, then pack it all up for Mom and Dad's House 9 years running now I do the cooking for everyone since the folks got up in years, it is my pleasure to do it, Great Times that I will never forget!

It was always tradition to go to their house so I try to keep it going

Happy Thanksgiving guys! I'm really thankful for my family and friends for keeping my spirits up after only working temp and trying to maintain a budget and not buying any gadgets. I think I've FINALLY got a permanent job. Eat till you drop YALL!

Thanksgiving is always my favorite holiday. My birthday was two days ago, that may have something to do with it.

My son is here now and my daughter is on her way. My brother & family will show up later.

Yesterday my wife & I put a 19 lb bird in a brine bag. I put it into the vegetable bin, but it was tough getting it all back into the refrigerator. An hour or two later, I noticed the bin was full of brine. That bag leaked! So I turned the bird over several times. I hope that will do the job.

The bird went into the oven at 10 this morning, and a short while ago I took it out and tented it with foil. Three hours and done!? I wondered about that but meat thermometers don't lie. Plenty of time to let it rest, and make the gravy from the pan drippings.

At roughly 4 pm, the Bird is the Word! Happy Thanksgiving!

Bonnie made 2 pies yesterday, apple and blueberry !

We brine ours in a 5 gallon bucket with weight on top to keep it submerged. Works great, as long as the bird fits and so far they've all fit.

A belated Thanksgiving to all.

I hope you all had a good time and kept away from the corporate rat race trying mightily to destroy this beautiful holiday. We really do have a lunatic top hamper in charge.

We had a nice family day here at Eagan. My eldest son was not here as he is working in Vassa Finland at the moment.

For the most part we avoided the corporate food chain. Out Turkey was sourced from a butcher in Clear Lake MN, free range and never frozen. The ham came from our butcher at Laporte MN. He is supplied by a farm in southern MN and smokes the hams himself. He also makes and excellent British banger (sausage). He also supplied the pork sausage meat for the stuffing. The gravy was made from scratch from turkey stock I made a few weeks ago. Roast potatoes, Brussels sprouts, sweet potatoes and fresh cranberry source completed the picture. Denise made fresh pies (apple, pumpkin and pecan) from scratch.

One of the pleasures of retirement is the time to cook the old ways my grandmother used to. Out of the rat race of the big cities artisans are learning to produce fine ingredients again. Craig our butcher at Laporte, population 180, is a master butcher and sausage maker. I really appreciate his hard work. I'm glad to say people are finding their way to his shop from hundreds of miles now. This is the way to break with the corporate food chain. One vendor contracting with known farmers raising animals under known conditions. He also personally inspects the slaughter house. The interesting thing is that he can produce his excellent hams for less than you can buy a lousy one in a Twin Cities supermarket.

I have become a convert to locally produced food sold by local non corporate vendors. The current food chain is faulty and from a public health point of view dangerous.

Well you are what you eat.
Doing the family dinner this sunday. Get to see people we haven't seen in a while.
