A few nights ago I was watching a program on The National Geographic channel about Jerusalem. They pointed up that there were many members from the 3 major world religions - Christianity, Judaism & Islam. Each group believed they had a “better” reason to be there than the other two, and each had what they claimed to be a significant religious spot staked in a relatively small area. The narrator pointed out that each group had to be careful with how they referred to certain events in each of their religions so as not to upset one of the others, and possibly set off an “incident”.
As I watched, it occurred to me that each group simply had a slightly different take on the same event. I have seen other programs that point out that each religion has more in common than not.
I don’t know why each group can’t just say “OK, you believe what you want, I’ll believe what I want & let’s just accept the differences we have and move on in peace”.
I realize how overly simplified this sounds, but in the absence of fighting over our differences, we can all enjoy the simple nature of peace.
May we all enjoy peace each & every day.
