Halloween, when are you too old?

OK, so for that past 12 or so years we have had a huge halloween party every year, this year both of my kids are going to a school "lock in", so when my wife was planning a party I was confused???? I told her "lets just go to dinner, come home, watch a movie and enjoy the night with no kids". She agreed, BUT now instead of going out to dinner we have to go to 3 other halloween parties... I was just better off letting her plan the party, now I have to drive around all night dressed like a wolf, and she wants me to get my beard cut like a wolf the day before, and she bought a new black dress and I have to be like a well dressed wolf with a pinstripe suite and fedora with ears sewed to the side, I am not looking forward to this, why cant life be easy, I just want to go get a steak and wedge salad, then come home, have a whiskey and maybe a heath bar, then go to sleep listening to some music...

yah, we are doing dinner tonight, so I will get my steak tonight. My wife looks so hot in her little red riding outfit, so yes J, you are right, it wont be too bad, after she put the costume on last night I was sold, now I am looking forward to being the wolf...

Good for you!

I'm a frumpy old man and never preferred getting into a costume. Of course I am ALWAYS in costume as a tired father, husband, homeowner and salesman. I suppose I could be Willie Loman for one night.

My younger son's birthday is Halloween. My wife and I will likely be split up, her handing out candy here at home while I go do duty at my son's home while he and his fiancé go out on the town.

Its all about whether you are enjoying yourself. That being said, even though you may feel like you are being dragged around, try to make the most of it, because you may miss the experiences later.

It's hard to give any advice without knowing the person, but a safe bet might be for you two to take turns making plans for Halloween. At the every least it will give some variety.

It won't be too tough. If you get tired, you can leave. If you host the party, you aren't leaving until everyone else goes first. If you host, you have to deal with people like me who train their kids to say to the host: "We're not leaving 'till we're heaving!"

Daycare had a Holloween party 8 years ago where one mom showed up as Raggedy Ann. Her caboose in the white tights with the skirt that didn't cover it still renders me speechless...
