Guitar Amp Drivers for replacements?? (noob)

Hello everyone. I am fairly new to the whole "audio scene" but have always had a thing for loud-accurate music. My main focus is not on home theater by any means.

I have many older sets of speakers that are in decent shape. For instance I have a set of speakers (that I cannot even remember the name of right now and I am not at my home to check them) that are in great working condition except for the fact that the 10" woofers have no foam on them at all. Right now The boxes themselves are recieving a new coat of paint on the face, and some wood cleaner and polishing on the cherry wood sides. I was curious if i should order and replace the foam or if I should replace the speakers all together.

Looking online I found nothing in the 100-200W range in a 10" size besides drivers meant for guitar amps. They ussually run between $40-$100 each, which is affordable for me at the time.

Please help I am a very lost person right now!

Different drivers have different characteristics. Replacing the woofers is likely to yield bad sound because the crossovers and cabinet volume will be wrong. Refoaming is a better idea. Search "speaker refoaming kit" on ebay.

Ok so im just gunna fix the foam. Now im wondering if i could build a box from scratch and use guitar drivers like 10" 's for the low's and then im gunna use tweaters i already have...any ideas? will the amp speakers (drivers) sound any good?

ok so i was just looking at some guitar amp replacement speakers and i found these

with a freq. response of 45kHZ to 4kHZ.

Most subs have freq. response of around 100HZ-1000kHZ. correct? so does that mean the lowest bass noise those replacement speakers can reach is 4 times that of the highest frequency most subs can put out? if thats so, that means guitar replacement speakers would make awful subs in a custom built box. Am i reading this all wrong? someone please help!

Before you start redesigining speakers perhaps you should take some time to learn a little about this stuff. If you had, you would have quickly seen just how wrong you are.

There's a heckuva lot more than just stuffing drivers into a box. Read other posts n related forums here for a start. Then, there's the "AV University" off the home page of this site.

To keep it simple, musical instrurment speakers suck in home audio applications.
