Hello people. I have a question regarding the Behringer PEQs. Ed Mullen suggested the FBQ2496 which can be had for about $150. I noticed that the DEQ2496 is basically the same thing BUT also has an RTA that displays the frequency response. Of course, it is $300. Is this the only difference in that it has an RTA and displays the frequency response???? Lastly, the DSP1124P can be had for only $100. From what I can tell it will do the job in that it will correct my in-room response. Ed Mullen recommends that I do a 3db boost at 40Hz and perhaps 50 Hz. In other words, I need to boost the 40-60 Hz region. He also told me I had a few dips at 200 Hz and 315 Hz respectively. Will either of these correct the 200 Hz/315 Hz problems for me too??? Also, can any one here point out the main differences regarding the (3) EQs listed above as I am still very confused??? Lord knows I have bothered Ed enough so I thought why not ask this question here ............LOL!!!! :p:p Please help if you can. Thank you so much. :):)

Read this over it should help explain some of your questions.

I have read this a couple of times. It is quite useful BUT it does not point out any of the differences between the DEQ2496, FBQ2496, or the DSP1124P respectively. Put another way, I would rather get the DSP1124P since it is less expensive OR should I get the FBQ2496 for only $50 more??? In other words, what does the $50 more give me when comparing the DSP1124P directly to the FBQ2496??? Lastly, for another $150 more I could get the DEQ2496. What does the extra $150 give me when compared directly to the FBQ2496???? Not attempting to make this difficult BUT do want to make a well informed decision. Thanks for posting. I have read about the Behringer EQ's in general BUT am now looking more at the specifics. Care to help any one?

Ask the guys over at Home Theater Shack... They really know the ins and outs of all these units the most...

The RTA can be of use in diagnosing travelling waves in the room. It is also terribly handy for speaker and sub placement as you can move and watch at the same time and find the exact right spot instead of move, measure, move, measure, etc. and potentially miss that exact right spot.

I plan to do just that when I get ready to buy one. It may be a while though as money is very tight right now. Not in no real big hurry anyways. Thanks for posting. :):)

Yeah points well taken BUT, you also have to buy a mic and then a mic pre-amp. Really looks like it is going to be a bit beyond my budget. Guess I need to focus on the FBQ2496 OR the DSP1124P. But, thanks for the info.

Nah - a Radio Shack SPL meter will do just fine. Just account for the non-linearity of the mic section. There are tons of places on the web where the corrections are listed. You should have one of these anyway just to do a proper speaker level setup.

I have a RS SPL meter and the Rives Test CD2 which already corrects for the non-linearity on tracks 32-62 as specified in the directions. This is how I calibrated my set-up after running the MCACC and hence plotted my in-room frequency response. Just trying to discern which is better for my needs regarding the DSP1124P and the FBQ2496. They are only $50 apart BUT need to get what will work the best. I am working on it as we speak.
