Yeah, hum is there with only power and speakers connected, but with 1 catch: Amp ONLY powers up when it has signal to the 12V trigger, so I MUSt have that connection to my reciever too in order to test. I suppose I could rig it up to another 12V source for testing purposes.
Since you never mentioned what the equipment is, you might want to do that now. Most amps that have a 12VDC or signal-sensing power on trigger have a power switch, too.

What happens when you let the 12V trigger turn it on, then disconnect it?
Does the amp stay on? Does the hum go away with only the speakers connected?
