GRINDHOUSE - best 6 bucks . . .

. . . I've ever spent!! Alright, maybe, maybe not, but it was certainly refreshing and entertaining and well worth every cent.

Robert Rodriguez absolutely nails Planet Terror. It is a gory, gross, hilarious rollercoaster ride that has to be seen - if you have the stomach for it! I haven't had that much fun at a movie in probably forever.

Tarantino's flick, Death Proof, has its moments also. However, Tarantino really ruins a great opportunity to make a legendary double feature by putting in his signature overly long, pointless dialogue that seems to run on forever (my opinion of course). I know that it's his style, but it absolutely doesn't work in a movie like this (but he can't help himself can he?). He manages to make up for it a bit at the end, but by that point I had crashed from my Planet Terror high I was on, and I just wanted the movie to get to the climax. Maybe it was because the 2 movies total over 3 hours and that is a bit too long to sit in one place.

Anyway, it was great either way, but I think Rodriguez really showed who is the more creative and entertaining film maker. Tarantino had a great chance to try a new formula, but he is just too comfortable with his endless chattering about nothing in particular - it wasn't even entertaining chatter as is usually the case. Oh well, I don't want to sound too negative because it was really a great time. I guess it is just my nature to be critical.

If you go in ready to laugh and be entertained, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. Just remember that this is no kid's movie and you will be grossed out in some parts.

The fake trailers in the beginning and in between the movies are worth the price of admission by themselves!!

I can't wait to see this! It looks like a cheesy drive-in double feature! Too bad there isn't a drive in near Philly.

Actually, I liked the Tarantino one better - yes, it's slower paced, but "Planet Terror" was basically a really good re-creation of a stupid splatter-flick with some funny winks to the audience, while "Death Proof" actually felt like a fully realized re-interpretation. Patience is rewarded - it really thrilled me in a way that Planet Terror never did. Roriguez entertained me, Tarantino actually managed to pull me in and make me care - no easy feat for this kind of material. But then again I've always loved Tarantino, long drawn out conversations and all.

Although, admittedly, no assault-rifle prosthetics in Death Proof. ALL movies should have assault-rifle prosthetics. (But how was it triggered, one wonders?)

The fake trailers were AWESOME, although "Thanksgiving" really "icked" me out. Nasty! Really nasty.

Trying to describe the trailers, especially Thanksgiving, is nearly impossible. You have to see them yourself and be awed at the level of sickness someone can concoct in their mind and then put on film. Thanksgiving was simultaneously very icky (as you described), but also laugh out loud hilarious. Pretty hard to pull that off, but mission accomplished!!

Yes...as "icky" as "Thanksgiving" was, it may have also gotten the biggest laugh of the evening. Pretty impressive.

Also, apparently "Machete" is a character from Rodriguez's "Spy Kids" movies - which makes it even funnier.

$6 was a matinee price. Evening shows run around $8.50.

I'd pay an extra $3 for a movie if I could have some of your weather!!

Yeah, I love living in California. But the high cost of housing, $3.50 a gallon gas, so on and so on, gets annoying sometimes.

Saw it last night. Two thumbs high. Planet terror was entertaining because it really was a crappy movie, so bad that it became watchable. And more, it became fun to watch.

Death Proof was actually good, long structured dialogue and all. Especially once they got into the white car. I wonder what happened to the cheerleader?

Anyways, I'll definately pick it up on dvd when it's out.

I've been meaning to add to my earlier comments...

Anyone who enjoyed the "Planet Terror" part of Grindhouse should definitely check out the movie "Slither". It came out about a year ago, and it's along the same lines - homage to gross-out sci-fi/horror/zombie flicks. Not nearly as over-the-top as Planet Terror, but even better, IMHO.

Again, sadly lacking in assault-rifle prosthetics, but you can't have everything.

I've got to agree. It was so good I may see it again. My favorite trailer was Machete by far. There are rumors swirling that this will actually become a real movie (I hope so).

THis is going to be a must own DVD.
