Grill fabric

I need to make some grills for my speakers (my old guys and my soon-to-be's). What material can I use that will be acoustically transparent? I know part-express sells stuff specifically for it (and seem to have the lowest prices), but can I just go to a local fabric store and get something that will also be acoustically transparent? I read here: http://forum.sounddomain.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=55;t=035744 that polyester or nylon work.

I'm pretty sure your loal Rat Shack should have grill material that is fairly inepensive.

Best bet is not to go to a local fabric store. You are gambling and the store will not know, guaranteed.

yeah i figured if i went to the fabric store, i'd have to know exactly what i wanted. i ended up just getting stuff from parts--express since i had to order another shipment of parts i forgot (twice the shipping...i HATE that)

I just finished recovering a pair of speakers that had a severe case of cat scratch fever with the black cloth from Parts Express. It is thinner than some of the OEM grille cloth I have replaced, so once you stretch it out it is a bit more transparent. If the material you are covering is light colored like my side panels were, you can spray some flat black paint on them first so the light color doesn't show through.

Yes, before and after. About 1100 degrees Kelvin light, I'd say. How's this one?

I got a pair in this color too, but they clash with the decor.
