In my experience, this isn't a good sign and may indicate that connections are bad inside the projector. With it well outside of warranty, you will want to watch videos on YouTube of FixItFrank and then take things apart (carefully) clean all the contact points, and put things back together (even more carefully).
If that doesn't work, then the projector would need to go into Epson for service.
