Got two surprises last night...

My wife's looking at cars...namely the Mini Cooper. Well, she's been trying to figure out what options she can afford to include on the car. The one she wasn't sure about was the upgraded Harmon Kardon sound system...whether or not it was worth the money.

So I was sitting at my desk, and my wife walks in, plops a stack of CDs on my desk and said, "Let's go to the dealer. I want to compare the sound systems." The salesman was more than happy to let her, being a former musician. He actually let her do a complete comparison demo...pulled two cars up right next to each other so there wasn't a lot of time in between...and just let her relax and listen to a few songs.

I was really surprised, we had a better demo for a $500 car stereo option than I have looking for HT speakers in a long time.

Of course, the surprises didn't stop there. We went to dinner after, and she started asking me questions about why she could hear different instruments in different speakers in one and not the other. She actually sat for a brief audio lesson.

(No surprise at all, she's getting the upgraded stereo...it actually sounded pretty good.)

Heh. It is...half the people I work with have new cars/trucks. I'm just looking forward to us going from one truck to two cars for the same amount of money. :) (Oh yeah...I'm getting one, too...probably this week.)

hehe, I sold my parents' hand-me down AE86 to buy my very own 1986.5 Supra (MA70). Which, of course, consequently got sold in exchange for a 2002 Civic w/ the girlfriend.

RWD was so much fun. :(

I'm looking at maybe picking up a 2006 Mazda 3 sedan though. Unfortunatly the only 'upgraded' stereo option is a Blose. Looks like I'll be upgrading everything on my own. Oh well. I love my Kenwood Deck. Its prolly got better DACs than my receiver. (Burr-Brown 24-bit)

Anyway, for my on-topic post which I completely forgot about, I really like the new minis. My GF's dad used to race the old ones when he was younger and despised the new ones when they came out. He went and test-drove one when one of his daughters was looking at them and came back chagrined and impressed. They're gutsier than they look.

What kind of car are you looking at, gellor?

I was really impressed with the Mini. Especially since I'm 6'10" and I fit in it comfortably. She's getting the CVT base-model, and with it in sport mode, its not too bad at all. Best thing about them, though, is the sheer amount of personalization you can do to them from the factory. Minis and Scions both seem to be the only ones that get the idea of people wanting a car that doesn't look like the rest in the parking lot.

Oh...I'm probably going to get the VW Rabbit, if they'll give me a good trade-in on my truck. If not, I'll probably sell my truck privately and get a VW GTI.

Update: Carmax gave me a good bid on my truck, so one way or another, I'll be gettin' a new car this weekend!

If I decide to get another car as my next vehicle (right now a Harley 883 might be the next ride), I would go for some mid-90s Kenwood coaxials, the ones with the neodyminum inverted magnet structure, and an Eclipse ESN Cd player.

Given, I am a huge sportscar nut, and I do weight shave the living hell out of my sports cars, so those ultralight Kenwoods are absolutely awesome in my book. My old 92 mustang LX had around 200lbs of weight shaving.
