Actually, I ordered my new M&K VX860 a few weeks back and it showed up yesterday,12/24, just in time to be my Xmas present to myself. It replaced my crappy 8" Jenson HTIB sub and there is no comparison. I've been watching bass heavy scenes on dvd all day.

That is great. :D
Make sure you level match the sub as well to the other speakers. Enjoy.

My buddy used to have a M/K sub a couple of years ago. I just read the specs on that one it they are about the same. That sub should move the furniture around!!!

Yeah, it's pretty deep at times. I really haven't played with the setup much yet. I just plugged it in, set it on the floor in the middle of the room, and level matched it. I was watching the depth charge scene from U571 and had to turn the volume way down, it was making my ears hurt. I can't imagine how much better it could sound once I get a good location and start tweaking it.

Good stuff Jack! I ordered a new sub yesturday.

All I hear about M&K subs is good things, so it must be true.

Now, are you willing ot go through the work and write a review for it?

Honestly, I wouldn't know where to begin or what I was talking about. I barely understand the setup stuff I read as it is. And my knowlege of technical terms is pretty weak. Besides that I'd be glad to.;)

What did you order and when do you get it?

I tell you what, you ship it here, and I will write a review for you! :)

I bought a Velodyne DSP-12 for $399 CAD (Canadian...)

Its not here yet because I ordered it on Dec 25th, and it ships on a business day (not boxing day). I'm guessing Wed or Thurs, and hoping for Tues.

I was seriously considering the DSP-12 myself, but in November, Future Shop had Athena speakers for 30% off. So I bought the AS-P6000 for $399 and figured if it didn't do the job, I'd bring it back and wait till the velo went on sale. I must admit that the athena sub sounds absolutely great. As a matter of fact it's almost too much sub for my living room, of course I will have to put up with that (wink-wink, nudge-nudge).
Seriously though, that 200 w/rms Bash amp really does the trick.

I have listened to that sub at FS, and it was very nice. Huge too.

I am using an AS-P400 right now (10inch, the P4000 replaces it) and its a good sub, but it dies out at 27Hz. It just can't get down low enough, and it really likes to blow air.

I would like to hear one of the newer ones in my room because they use a different box and port design. But, I can't buy all the subs.

I was looking at the sales they have on those subs, but the DPS-12 was cheaper then the AS-P6000, so I jumped on that. I think it was on sale for a couple hours. Seriously. It wasn't on sale on the 26th. On the 25th, it was 499, then later on it was 399 until 12:00am.

Guess I got lucky ;)

You got it at a steal, that's for sure. Thank goodness for online shopping as most of the stuff that the stores have on sale is long gone by the time you get to the store.
I have an old Quest 10", 150 w sub that for the price of $150 that I paid for it two years ago sounds not too bad, but had a real tough time with DVD movies as it would start to distort at moderate sound levels. With the athena, I can play it almost to ear bleeding levels and no discernable distortion that I could tell.
A good powerful sub can sure make even a mediocre HT sound pretty impressive.
