In my living room system is a Teac CD-P650 CD player. It has a USB port that doubles as an ipod controller and has optical out. Decided to see if I could find another one for my master bedroom system with Heresey III's. They sell for $175 to $350 on ebay or Amazon. Found one with a remote that is supposedly tested and works. He accepted my offer for $50 plus ship. So great!

Congrats. Make sure he knows how to properly package for shipping. The last "deal" I got was destroyed in shipping due to seller being an idiot.

Whoops. I meant "with no remote". Which is fine, because I have one. That is likely why I got the deal.

The same problem happened to me more than 15 years ago. I had bought a nice Revox A77 reel-to-reel tape deck. It's a high-end audiophile machine that was enclosed into teak wood cabinet. When, I received it, the wooden box was all broken in pieces, because the seller hadn't securely packaged the item.

eBay authorized me to return the item for a full refund, despite the seller's objection. I had numerous photos of the destroyed enclosure and offered to send them to eBay, but they did not ask for them. They believed me. I however had to pay for the return shipping.

The seller sells mainly stereo components. No feedback issues with packing except one guy who bought something he thought was collectable and the seller put labels and shipping tape on the actual original box which ticked off the buyer.

Dilemma here: The CD player arrives today so I was going through the Yam set-up app to add it. Turns out my Yamaha RX-A670 optical input is TV only! I am not using the optical at the moment because I use arc HDMI for the TV. So, my question is: will good RCA's sound as good as a digital optical input? Seems a shame to have an optical out and not being able to use it. Obviously, I know it will not be as good, but would the difference be so close as to not be decipherable? Or do I find another avr since it is important to me?

It was disappointing to find that out. But it is hooked up with RCA's and it sounds amazing. I highly doubt that it makes a diff!

If I’m not mistaken, you can change the TV audio input assignment when using HDMI-CEC and ARC. I believe you can change it to Audio 2(coaxial) so another device can be connected to Audio 1(optical). Then, you can go back and forth between Audio 1(optical) and Audio 3(analog) with the CD player to see which you prefer. This is assuming something else isn’t already using the Audio 2(coaxial) input and you can assign it to the TV.

Not using the coax input at the moment and nothing in Audio 2. That setting must be in the settings as opposed to the app set-up guide. I'll see what I can find.

That worked Trebdb83! I can select audio 1 or 3 now! It's great!! Audio 1 is optical now and 3 is RCA. You always have great advice. Thx! Toggling between the two playing my go-to audio-checking song, Mr. Mister's "Stand and Deliver", the clear choice is optical. It is tighter and punchier, whereas the RCA input sounds softer and does not have the same punch.
