I am using my Yamaha RX-V995 as a preamp for DD and DTS. It is good, but what would it take to step up into a DD/DTS preamp, that is better quality than the Yamaha? I would like to find a good used one to save money.

Thanks,
Brad

Hi, Brad. When I moved from my Yamaha RX-V992 to a newer Pioneer VSX-1015 in 2005, I was extremely pleased. The VSX-1015 had better processing, and even more important to me, it had an auto set-up routine that adjusted equalizer settings that really made my system sound better. So, I'm thinking that a move to a newer receiver (or pre/pro) with auto set-up might give you the same improvements.

Are there any other desires besides DD and DTS? Do you want to add HDMI connectivity? Newer lossless codecs?

I don't need HDMI switching, my TV has all the inputs I need. I am fairly happy with DD/DTS, and I am sure Dolby TrueHD & DTS-HD pre/pros would be fairly expensive ( I am assuming pre/pro is short for preamp/processor). Was hoping to find a good pre/pro rather than a rec as I have separate amps for all channels. Something used, maybe 5 years old, that I might find on ebay for a good deal.

You can find Onkyo Pro 885s for like under a grand now.
