Good Surround Mix on Road Worthy Rescues

All channel stereo makes a mess of everything and is a good way to blow up a receiver. It should not really be an option, unless you use separates.
Even for a tv show? Not cranked up of course. Might be a moot point unless I have better results with my Denon system.

The Denon has Multi CH Stereo mode and a Mono Movie mode along with the Dolby and DTS up mixers. The result of using any of them should be comparable to the Onkyo’s performance. There just is not any magic to be worked with those particular tracks.

A little experimenting with a TRF episode with the RZ50 and Mono Music setting is very much acceptable. Sounds great actually. I can hear all 7 speakers, mostly the center and it's fine. So that's my setting old TV/movies now. I have yet to see what's best with the Denon. But I'll be trying Multi CH Stereo mode and a Mono Movie mode and see what happens.

I think I used Mono Movie mode with my Denons when playing mono tracks. I just use Mono mode now with the Onkyo when playing mono tracks. Watched “A Christmas Story” on blu-ray today. It’s got a sweet DD 1.0 track.:D

How 'bout this DVD? Remember true murder-for-hire story with the Texas woman Wanda Holloway in the early '90's? I do remember the news when the arrest and trial were taking place. Last night, I saw a documentary about it narrated by her daughter on Discovery Plus streaming channel. Holly Hunter and Beau Bridges starred in an HBO movie about this whole story back in 1993. It was made as a comedy. Holly Hunter is just great and so funny. The actual movie and DVD is called "The Positively True Adventures of the Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom". I have owned it for the past 20+ years and since I watched the documentary, tonight I am getting ready to pop the DVD in. The audio set-up options are English Stereo.... and .... well that's it. Unless I go with Spanish mono and as Dana Carvey as GHWB would say "not gonna do it". Anyway, getting to my reason for this post.... what setting on my Onk would be best for this DVD? Oh yeah, the documentary showed me how true to actual events the movie is from what I remember when I watched it several years back.
btw, here is a wik page on the mom/story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Holloway

edit: oh... looking at the back of the dvd case, it has "Dolby Surround AC-3 Digital" logo on it.
