I need a HDMI-HDMI cable to link my DVD player to my TV. I've seen a lot of different brands and even the ones that get mostly good reviews have the odd review saying that the cable didn't work at all. I need some advice, what should I be looking for in a good quality cable and which manufacturers produce a decent cable? I've heard good things about Monster cables but they're too expensive, I'm looking to spend under £20.

Monoprice.com and bluejeanscable.com are well supported here and they should fit in your price range.

I'm hoping to buy from a store based in the UK, don't suppose you have any general advice for chosing a cable (specs, materials it should be made from, etc.)?

Bluejean Cable

Just bought a couple 15' hdmi cables from bluejeancable. Ordered Friday, arrived Monday. Excellent service, excellent cables.

How ling of a run do you need? That would have some impact on the actual copper size in the cable.
For short runs, you could use .321mm(28ga) diameter wire; then up to .511 mm dia.(24ga) or maybe .644mm dia if need be, even longer cables.
