Yamaha 2400 or Denon 2805 will be right at your budget... Sony 2000ES if you;ve got other Sony components. The Yamahopper has a kazillion DSP's if you're into that and was named in the "Ultimate System" post on the website ( http://www.audioholics.com/showcase/systemguide/mid_system.php ) , while the Denon is solid and leading edge in DAC. Both are reasonably new but have been extremely well received in these posts. Alot of people are actually stepping down from the Denon 3805 to get the 2805.

It's not which one you choose, but that you know what your options are and make a decision based on the features and sound most important to you.

If I helped you in the first part (knowing your options), you should rest easy in the second (picking the one best suited to your needs).

You did help. Looking at the models you suggested gave me a better idea of the features that I was interested in.
