Not sure if anyone out there is a Donald Fagen fan but Donald is the founder of Steely Dan and recently released a new album named "Morp the Cat" which I used to do some testing in my recent receiver testing and it worked real well for me listening to the same songs on various receivers i'm sure it drove the sales guys nuts but it helped me determine what sounded best to me.
Morph The Cat has received a Grammy nomination for "Best Surround Sound Album"

There are lots of us Steely Dan/Donald Fagen fans out here, and we're quite aware of this groups sonic marvels. They were probably the first jazz/rock group to really take audio quality to the level we see today, both in LPs and CD/SACD/DVD-A formats.

Amen to that. I've been a fan since 1973, been to the concerts, probably
the most complete rock/jazz/fusion/pop band ever.

for this CD done last Spring when it hit the streets. Like most (if not all) the Steely Dan/Donald Fagen CD's, "Morph the Cat" makes an excellent demo source (there's some ultra-deep bass on the title track that you can only appreciate on top-notch systems). I still use Steely Dan "Aja" (another Audioholics CD Review) as a speaker audition source.

Morph this...

I own and love everything Steely Dan and Donald Fagen has released and saw them perform live. They're great. So I'm not saying this out of ignorance or lack of respect for the Don, Walter and crew, but...I don't GET "Morph the Cat"!! The DVD-Audio sounds spectacular, and the underlying theme of death is cool and all, but none of the songs had that lasting "Steely Dan" impact on me. Am I the only one?

No, you're not alone. I especially like Bright Nitegown" and "Security Joan", but I don't reach for this disc as often as the older SD/Fagen stuff. Sure love the sound quality and multi-channel effects, though.

I think sd has stood the test of time like few other bands have. I have seen them 3 times and think all their music is better than 99% of the stuff that is coming out today. I like morph but it took a while to grow on me. Some of the songs go on a little long.
