Wasn't it Homer who wrote the check to buy a top of the line RV and post dated it for 2030 or something. Maybe this Boulder guy wont notice. :p

Thanks for the tips.

Back to the amps I can afford. (I appreciate the suggestion on looking at really outrageous equipment unfortunately it seems to have stolen the steam from this thread - perhaps I should repost the topic to get back to amps closer to $2K? - just let me know). Bryston seems like my best choice so far. Any others you would recommend that would be a significant difference over a rotel or parasound?

Thanks

GUYS PLEASE DO NOT HI-JACK THREADS. The whole 2nd page is a waste of space. If you would like to discuss that amplifier please start your own thread. Boe is asking for suggestions. What else can we help with?

Boe: My advice stands as before from my previous post.

Thanks for your suggestion - I am thinking of getting the VR4 upgrade from VS - it costs about $2500 but so far I have haven't heard anyone regret the upgrade. I do like my parasound and it has plenty of power - it is actually the 3500 which is about 300 watts per channel. It just doesn't seem quite as detailed as some of the amps I've listened to. I'm fine with volume - I have more than I need.

I would love to replace my preamp when the technology is worth it for me to make the jump. I started a post on the Rotel forum as for my hopes for their next preamp. I realize no manufacturer has all the features I want yet (kind of like specifying how many usb ports you want on your motherboard when the usb standard was just about to be released). I do believe that if they were to release a new preamp in about 9 months, it would be enough time for them to incorporate many of those specs.

Good point...I blame Jax!

Another amplifier that I feel falls in the same class category as Bryston would be Aragon. Those are the two nicest sounding amps I've ever heard. The next echolon would be the Krells, Mark lev's and Macintosh which I would
never be able to afford so I've never bothered to listen.

The Aragon 8008 is 200x3 and probably goes for about $2000. I would consider it audiphile quality and certainly a notch above Parasound, Adcom,
B&K and the likes.

Only half guilty. I may have suggested the look, but I definitely put in my two cents (which also happens to be the favored amp right now, Bryston). So, I win. Or not. I don't know. Nonsensical post. WOOOO!

Seriously though, I'd say Bryston, again.

Thanks for everyone's input. If I can get a good deal on the Bryston 6b SST I'll probably go for it otherwise I'll stay put for now. I know there are plenty of people who would say otherwise but I didn't feel the aragon was that much of a step up from my parasound although I would agree they are a big jump from the adcom. Although their is definitely science behind amps, I think there is a great deal of preference based on tastes which are not very easy to a apply a metric to.

Absolutely correct. And, nothing wrong with such a preference based selection, unless one makes a testable claim :D
