Well, the side-bar ads are racy, but the video content isn't.

Something to note...

You should note, this show if VERY screened. It's not 1 after another. The editing makes it seem like people are actually that stupid. Their not.

I'm sure you could do the same thing in every country.

I saw the videos, but I don't get it.

Doesn't Canada want to preserve its national igloo or switch to 24 hour clocks?

I guess the eskimos are just getting uppity now.

;) :) ;)

Really, do we need to do a show on dumb Canadidians, or perhaps Mexicans, or people from Russia? It's just kind of silly. There really ARE people who think all Americans are dumb and self centered. Not that my international understanding is good by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not like people in (all) other countries have to drive 24 hours (or more) to get out of the country they are in quite often.

A friend of mine came over from Europe one time and asked if later in the week we could take a drive out and see the 'midwest'. He didn't understand that the midwest is a 2 day+ drive from Washington, DC. The distances involved in the US were unreal to him. Stupid European? Nah! Just news. Another friend saw lightening bugs for the first time. He thought that they were made up things - not real. He was psyched seeing them the first time - but really couldn't believe his eyes.

It's pretty sad when people prey on another person's lack of knowledge then not only turn it into a joke, but use it as an opportunity to dis' an entire nation. F'd up if you ask me.

I find there's no excuse when Canada is RIGHT THERE. Granted, I don't have any specific knowledge of Canada (politics, etc), but people in Canada's similar neighbor should know they don't have a national igloo, or that time is an international standard.

There's a difference between ignorance (not used to HUGE distances) and stupidity.

A couple hours after a man and his wife checked into a local resort, he called the front desk demanding to speak to the manager. He was furious that "you drained the water out of the bay, and after driving all day, all we have to look at is wet sand".

Guess they don't have tides in Victoria, BC?
No excuse?

But you are probably right. Drawing the conclusion that "...most Americans are stupid... " from a video showing 5 or 6 people who were probably just being courteous to some guy with a camera - well... you helped prove your point.

You are American, aren't you?

By the way, this is how the video was described in Canada:
Highly educated Americans talk about they're neighbours to the south.

Back in the mid 80's, I worked in Saint John New Brunswick. I was good at geography, and found it very funny when the girl at the Air Canada counter at Logan (Boston) tried to get me on a plane to New Foundland (Newfies to you canucks). There is a St. John's in Newfieland, but notice the spellings. Anyway, since then, my work has taken me to both places and I'd rather be in St. John's than Saint John. BTW, if there is one place that can wrest the title of Armpit of the Universe away from Perth Amboy New Jersey, it is Saint John NB.

The guy doing the interviews is Rick Mercer. He is one funny man. The clips aren't meant to "dis" all americans, just southerners and guys from Boston, all of whom deserve contempt.:p I really am kidding (I was born in California and most of my family lives south of the border). Rick Mercer goes after everyone, he actually managed to get an interview with the Prime Minister of Canada (our version of president) and he busted the man's balls for about 20 minutes, telling him to stand up for himself, it was priceless. The truth of the matter is that Canada and the US are more than neighbors and friends, we are trading partners, lol. No offence, but a large segment of Canada (myself included) love seeing Americans getting taken down a peg (humor wise only). Americans are generally a very introverted and isolationalist people, whether you want to admit it or not. Is that a bad thing, nah, but you guys should be willing to laugh harder at yourselves like Jaxvon. Some of my favourite parts in the Simpsons or Family Guy are the cheap shots they take at Canada from time to time. Ever see a little movie called Southpark. There was a song in it that was called "Blame Canada". It was nominated for an Oscar, and did you hear any Canadians grumble that we were being unfairly persecuted by the American Media Giant? Nah we were too busy laughing at the movie. I say enjoy Mr. Mercer and his funny quips, try to find the one where he goes to the Harvard Campus, tell me how educated those kids really are. (I had a cousin who got his masters from Harvard. He told me the school only had 2 types of people. The uber rich and the uber smart. For the most part the uber rich were not that bright in his opinion, but the uber smart were scary to behold)

I am American, and that's why that kind of stuff is appalling to me. Granted, there are stupid people everywhere, but I feel that we have a larger share of them here. If you need proof, just look to our commander in chief :(

Does this mean Canada is better than the US? No. Is it funny to watch people make fools of themselves on TV? You betcha

I don't think that the number of stupid people is greater in America, I just think that the education focus is very different. In highschool in Canada for example one of my courses was American History (I got an A without going to class because everything in the course had already been beaten into my head before the 3rd grade, when I was still in school in the US.) Trust me, I know no one in the US that studied Canadian History in highschool, and that's a waste. Canadians have a great and exciting history that includes repelling a US invasion, chasing the invaders into Pennsylvania and burning down the original Whitehouse when our soldiers got drunk. That is why the Whitehouse is in Washington DC, to keep it away from us crazy Canucks. (I really love that story)

I think everyone has seen a person on the television that was less than ideally suited to be an ambassador for their country and winced as their mouths opened and the stupid flowed forth. I don't think Canada is better than the US, or brighter, or prettier, but we are two very different yet similar countries.

Oh and I agree, I love to see people look like Idiots on TV, and while I'm still a quasi republican at heart, I can't say I'm a fan of the George any longer.

mmmmm Heated discussion.

Takeereasy has the nail by the head, and then he hit it.

Theres 30million people in Canada. How many in the USA? I dunno, but alot more. So, no matter how smart the US is, there may still be more stupid people, but its because of a larger amount in the country.

I agree with the fact about schooling. We learn about EVERYTHING in History/S.S. I was mad becuase we spent so little time on WW2, and instead learned about Africa. There's not alot to learn about Western civilization, and it becomes clear when you learn about Europe.

I hope the US school system touches on some of it...

Not really, Sheep. In my school we only had US history. You could take other classes like Global Issues and Western history, but it wasn't a required course.

As for population, Canada has roughly the same population as California. The most recent Census number for the US population is 297,761,046.

Curriculum varies from district to district and state to state. There are guidelines for minimums set by the national government, but every school district does things a little differently.

LOL, that's great RJ. But you tell me, what would you do if you just happened to be on an ice flow and a dangerous baby seal attacked you, haven't you seen the cold dead eyes of a baby harp seal? They'd just as soon kill you as look at you. Those poor defensless sealers are only defending themselves from the hordes of doe eyed assassins.
