Getting Subwoofer to Play with 2.0 Audio...

Hey all, love the site. Sorry if this was already discussed but couldn't find it on a forum search.

The problem: Subwoofer won't play w/ any stereo audio source I plug into my receiver.

My gear: Denon AVR x4000 receiver. 2 Golden Ear Triton 7 front speakers. BIC PL-200 Sub. And some more basic Polk center and surrounds. I've tried audio CDs played via my Blu-Ray player and audio connected via iMac by running a lightning-->HDMI cable which works great for 5.1 movie audio but not for 2.1 music.

Everything runs like a dream in 5.1 audio of all types when I'm running movies via my Blu-Ray or my Media server on the iMac. However, I can't seem to get my subwoofer to be included in any music that I play. Thankfully the triton 7s have some decent base within the speakers themselves, but I would like to get my sub in on the action. I've searched through the receiver's manual and can't seem to find anything about this problem. There should be a way I get the sub to be included in 2.0 audio, no?

Any help you internet gurus could provide would be most appreciated! Let me know if you need any additional information. Sorry, kinda new to all this.

Thanks again!

Page 182. Go to speaker set up menu and specifically subwoofer set up and select LFE + main.

That should do the trick, unless it has the same software bug as one of my Marantz pre/pros. I had to add a center channel to get the sub to work in 2.1 mode.

Another option is to manually set the front speakers to small and set crossover to 60Hz (SVS's recommendation for your speakers).

Audyssey has a habit of calling speakers large that are really not so large you would want to forfeit the sub, and the default is to disconnect the sub if you have "large" speakers. (however sub plays LFE if you are watching a movie)

Awesome guys! Thanks so much! Forgot I had it set to large Front speakers! Given that, I opted of the second recommendation and changed front L,R to small and that fixed it. Do you still recommend I change it to LFE +main regardless? Again, thanks a bunch guys!
