Getting started on a Sonotube Subwoofer

Alright so here's the deal. I am a senior in High School and to graduate, all senior must complete a "Senior Project". For mine, I have decided to create a subwoofer using the sonotube design. Because this is a school project I don't want to spend a whole lot but I am willing to but some decent $$ behind it. I was wondering if anyone had any base plans or good design that is not extremely difficult to build? Also, part lists or places to buy parts would be very nice. My current receiver is a Denon AVR-985s (Basically the 2805) so I dont know how that will play into this sub, whether it should be passive or not. If it is passive, I am not 100% sure at how to hook that up. I'm very new to this whole DIY thing so bare with me if possible and anything you could do to help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I would not make it passive, your receiver wouldn't work well for a passive sub as it doesn't have a built in sub amp (most decent receivers don't). As for the design I don't know personally, I am sure someone will come to help with that momentarily. In the meantime you could try looking at DIY sites, you might find what you are looking for in some of those places.

I'm thinking about playing this sub on a Yamaha Rx-V390. How will this affect my powering? There is no sub out on this receiver...
