Gear advice for a pre-wired home

I just saw a similar thread for this but figured I should make my own because I have a slightly different situation. I have a home pre-wired with speaker install points throughout the house. They are not positioned in a way that makes stereo imaging possible (and only one wire per mount point)... so I'm looking at a bunch of mono speakers.

What I can't seem to figure out is what the best receiver or other gear that would allow me to send a properly powered mono signal out to the speaker(s) of my choice.

My guess is that I should use a stereo receiver and some kind of distribution module, but I'm at a loss. I have 8 individual mono speaker connections.

I'm looking to use them for nice background music over Christmas and whatnot -- not going to have a rave or anything with these.

Halp! :)

Seriously, I have no life.

Same answer as the other guy.

We need to know what speakers and how they are wired. What controls are there. Are they impedance matching or not?

It sounds as if a receiver is totally the wrong equipment for you.

What sources will you be using.

At first glance, it seems you need sources for the music you want to play, a preamp and then a distribution amp.

We can not recommend anything until we know exactly what you have got. If you can't find out and give us a complete description of what you have including wiring, then you need to call in a professional

For all we know this could be a 70 volt system.

Sorry, but much, much more information required. I have not idea what you mean by one wire per mount point. Every speaker needs at least two wires going to it.

Are sure it is one wire and not one jacket containing two wires?

Fair enough... let me give you some more info.

First off, while i can't say specifically what gauge wire is there (yet to open up the walls), there definitely are two wires. When i said "one" wire before i was referring to a single run of a paired speaker wire...i.e. one with two wires, which can accommodate one channel of audio, hence only usable for a mono speaker.

I haven't gotten speakers yet but i'm looking at the lower range... something like the polk RC80i or similar. I'm open to suggestions.

My source will likely be an apple airport (for airtunes) or a cell phone, either of which can share a standard 1/8 in stereo male connection. Your preliminary suggestion for a pre amp and distribution amp seems on the right path...

ok that makes thats clearer. For home distributed audio, your installation of wires seem correct. stereo imaging wasnt the thought as backround music was. To improve (slightly) you can go with an inexpensive single stereo speaker like this
