Gain control question

When I first ran Audyssey with my Marantz SR 5912, I kept my gain knob at 180 degrees as instructed. I never moved it from this position. I did increase my Sub by 3 db in post calibration however. It sounds good but I'm wondering if anybody has any information on nuances of gain control. Maybe I could improve Sub integration by engaging with it more before settling as I have done.

5912? What was the resultant level set for the sub before you raised it 3dB?

I raised by sub channel up 3 as well. Just wanted a little more bass really. I believe mine was in the same exact ballpark, might have been -7 to -3.

Oops... SR 5012. I believe it was -7.5 db and now I have it set at -4.5 db.
That's fine. As long as it wasn't set to -12dB, which would indicate the gain on your sub was set too high. I aim at anything greater than -11dB...
