I'm going have to sell these before I even get them but I hope to pass on a deal to a member here.

These are extremely heavy so a member on the east coast (near Virginia) would be ideal.

$1000 firm

Details: This modified Primus 362 pair is a fully active 4 way using two active crossovers (DCX2496 + CX2310) which are included in the price.

Per cabinet, is a sealed JL W7 8", two MMD 7" midbasses, one 4" MMD mid-range and a wide dispersion ribbon tweeter. Cabinet design is 3/4" MDF outer shell, 1/4" visco-elastic dampening core, 1/2" re-enforced concrete and extreme density 1.2" oak bracing. The bottom half of the cabinet has an additional 1.5" MDF layer with embedded steel braces, bringing the bottom half to 2.25" thick. This is a relatively low resonance design, but mass is relatively high.

Finish:- The finish is a beautiful koa wood veneer, with a sheen/natural shine. The earlier image of the cabinet did not have the finishes applied yet. The back of the cabinet is a textured black. The front is a high gloss silver paint with clear coat

Suggested amplification: is 8 ohm stable stereo amp on the tweeters of 75 x2 minimum.
Mid-range, 100x2 at 8 ohm stable, minimum.
Midbass, 250x 2 at 4 Ohms stable minimum.
Woofers need 450 x 2 at 4 ohms stable minimum.

- Using less power will reduce the dynamics below the intended target range. I think Matt has well over $2000 into these speakers, but I don't remember the exact figure. They are near complete, with the only thing left to do is make the adjustable base stands, install drivers and design the crossover programs for the DCX crossover.

Shipping-
If the person wants to have them shipped, please realize, you will have to pay for Chris to make a special crate, and pay freight shipping for probably a 450-550 lb load. Otherwise you would have to pick them up in person. Chris(the designer/builder) lives in Hurt, VA ,which is not very far from Lynchburg, VA.

Full range retail speakers that have similar measured/objective performance will start at about $15,000 USD if one picks the product very carefully.

Chris on this build:
It's actually difficult to call this a Primus 362. As this is really a completely new speaker that happens to use the 362 cabinet as part of the new cabinet and a couple of the drivers from the original 362, with a superior ribbon tweeter and enhanced bass using an added powerful/linear woofer. The original drivers used are not a compromise in any way, or I would not have retained them. The mid-range, overall(with it's SPL limits) will easily produce electrostatic transparency. It is a ceramic sandwhich design and is acting as a perfect piston up to about 10kHz(and it's crossed at 3kHz). The twin 6.5" midbass drivers operate from 100Hz-450Hz, and move plenty of air in this bandwidth to provide huge dynamic output. The 8" driver -- don't be deceived. This is a JL Audio W7. The finest 8" driver in the world. It has insane displacement and a motor with linearity that is unmatched in this size driver class. It produces the equivalent output of a high quality 12" driver when powered with a large enough amplifier. F3 is about 35Hz, with very high output ability. You can use it down to 25 Hz, but the large dynamics will be limited, therefor I recommend keeping a high pass filter activated on the digital crossover that placed F3 at about 35Hz(completely sufficient for music program).

Well right now it is a money only issue, she is in MD and doesnt know I am speaker shopping out here. In a few months money won't be an issue so she won't have any reason to deny me my speakers darn it. Right now I see her point,I am moving my family out to the west coast so I should wait until they are here and moved in and set up before buying anything audio related. I mean I did just sell all of my gear at home and have a pair of B&W DM 602's and a Yammi with a 8"sub here and am going to need something soon...
Okay, thought it was a WAF situation where the hardware is not wanted in the home.

But I'll warn you.... you'll have to dish out around $4k minimum for a full range custom build/designed speaker pair from me. Matt has a special deal here - where I received very little monetary compensation(another reason I'm disappointed that he can't take possession of these now). Just the parts total here comes in at almost 1800!

Breakdown:
Primus 362 pair/w shipping: $350
Ribbon Tweeters: $160
W7 8" Woofers: $550
Veneer: $60
Finish/paints: $50
Initernal materials(steel, concrete panels, wire, acostic stuffing, oak, adhesives, etc.): $125
Connectors: $30
Base materials: $80
DCX2496: $275
CX2310: $90

Also seems like the smartest thing. To be honest I would have really considered buying them but I could not come to terms with the fact I would have to eventually give them up.

Yes, Matt will be getting these back in 3 years, no question. I was quite alarmed in fact that he might have to sell them and not get them back, as I had built these especially for him(and I'm a bit fanatic about ensuring people get to enjoy the stuff I built them). So I made the very unusual offer to 'buy' them back on a temporary basis, per notarized contract.

Chris , will you set them up in your current system or do you already have your setup complete? If no, will you simply finish them and wrap em up for storage ?

I'm glad this worked out. :)

I'd have taken them for Matt if needed. I really just don't have an extra $1K to throw around right now. Heck, I'd almost spend that much in gas driving my pickup to Virginia and back. jk

It would be a waste for me to take them down here since they just go in storage or the spare bedroom. I really don't have the room for another pair of tower speakers.

But I still hope that some day when Matt gets back to the States that I might have a chance to hear them.

(LOL: notarized)

I don't know. They are going to be on a wheel base, so I'll probably 'change' between them in my main system as I feel like it. I might use them for my tv -- who knows. I won't put a scratch on them, though. As you know, I prefer omnipolar type speakers in my main system - but these will give me something different being that they are reference grade monopolar units.

I am sure they will look flawless when Matt gets them, I wish I could get to hear them, is there a speaker out there that would resemble these in some way or do I have to come to your place for the unique sound of these beauties,:D.
