Fronts?

Hi there. I currently run b&w 703's for my hometheater fronts with a htm3 center, 705 rears and ds7 surrounds, and al old Mtx 12" powered sub (i know its my weak point). I love the way jazz and blues an movies sound. only issue is i am afraid to turn them up. is there a decent speaker i can "beat on" Sometimes i love my music loud and I listen to a range of styles.. Or just buy a good sub? I am using a Yamaha rx-v3900 reciever.

You have a nice powerful receiver that is more than capable of driving your speakers to earbleeding levels without clipping the signal and damagaing your speakers. Your ears are gonna give out before your speakers will.

I feel as if the system wont get low enough for my liking sometimes, and i dont want to over extend the drivers.. I have the reciever set to "both" for my fronts , to also allow the sub to run... I think its just the fact that my sub needs to retire......any suggestions if so? dont want to spend more than probably $500-$600??

but in Thx or such the system will scare the heck out of you if watching a movie .... and feel it through your body... but thats more so the art of suprise.

For sub options; an SVS PB12-NSD or HSU VTF-2 MK3 should do nicely. The MTX probably sounds tubby, flabby, muddy, boomy, pick your adjective. I know you'll lose something on the low end, but how do things sound without the sub? Which mode(s) are you listening to music in? Asking for bass from both the sub and speakers may be causing some nulls. Obtaining the frequency response of your room would help to see what's going on. A couple of members have a Velo SMS-1 for a decent price that might help.

Do you change to stereo mode when listening to music? Also check your sub connection. Is it connected through the LFE or? Also, check all your wire connections.
I did a bit of research on these. Looks like these are excellent speakers rated down to 30hz and pretty efficient at 90db.
Try switching off the sub and setting your receiver to large or 2 channel or whatever your brand calls it and use just the B&W's when listening to music. I suspect it will sound better and you'll get plenty of bass from those, especially when playing loud. Crank em up,they can take it.
Let us know if your problem persists.

Thanks everyone... I set the reciever to 2ch stereo ,was on 7ch enhanced and set the stage to large. did make a huge difference.But i plan on looking for a new sub.. As far as the cables. I have kimber cables on my front two and center. i know alot will knock me but i honestly cant tell the difference between them and a set of standard 12/2 oxgyen free cables..but i spent the money and bought the better cables when i got the 7's and center.

The MTX sub definately needs to go! A MTX 12" sub was my first sub...I now have a Polk DSW PRO 500 (10") that can produce higher volume levels while giving very tight bass response that goes lower. What the MTX did very well was produce muddy/dull/incohesive sound ...

Don't ever buy expensive cables for anything again.
