Front Speaker recommendations

I have a Yamaha 7.1 Channel HDMI Receiver (HTR6080) with PSB Alpha Mini and a Mirage P58 for a 5.1 system with Sony 1080p 52" Widescreen LCD HDTV BRAVIA (KDL52XBR4). I am planning to slowly upgrade the speakers starting with buying two towers. What would be a good choice? PSB Image tower T65? What about Poke (RTiA5) or Klipsch (Synergy Series F-2), Infinity Beta 40 3-way or Energy Reference Connoisseur 3-way RC-30?

How important is voice matching? I read one place that indicates if I am using the speakers more for movies and HD TV then it is not as essential as for music. I do not want to change all five speakers now.

Current room size is not too large but I am planning a move and could end up with a larger room for the home theatre.

I have read the Ten Biggest Mistakes of Speaker and Home Theater Shopping

Welcome to Audioholics

Your front 3 speakers (Left, Center, Right) should all be from the same speaker line. Same drivers and tweeter.

Ditto Mazer's post. Skip the Klipsch Synergies, move up to their Reference line. I'd consider the PSB T45/55s instead since you'll probably be using a good sub. You should really listen to them before making a decision.

I agree with RAT. Audition as much as you can. You may or may not like the Image Towers but the only way to tell is by listening to them for yourself. Are you planning on owning a sub? If so, you could save some coin and choose teh T55 or T45. I own a pair of T45s and I love these speakers. Good tight musical bass that goes low enough for most music, life like mids, no chestiness in male vocals, and nice smooth detialed highs. They invite one to listen rather than throw the sound in your face. And they throw a very detailed precise soundstage with solid imaging. They also rock for HT use but do require a sub. Good luck and let us know how you make out. :)

Thank everyone. I was planning to keep using my Mirage sub. Eventually planning on getting a better centre speaker.

The problem with doing what I should do; listening to them is there is only one dealer for PSB here in Edmonton and he does not have them in. :( That is why I was wondering about the Polk Audio RTi A7? I could get them and a new centre for the price of a T 65 and maybe even a T 55. Also, I have lots of local places that seems to carry them.

I have been happy with my PSB and Mirage subwoofer but just wonderiing where to go from here.

Again, I appreciate all advise.

Have you gone to audition the Polk Audio RTi A7's anytime between today, and when you started this thread back on the 23rd?

Decisions, decisions. I don't think you will go wrong with Polk, PSB, Energy, Klipsch, Paradigm, Axiom, AV123, Athena, KEF, etc. You may like the sound of all of them. They are good speakers.

But let me offer you my thoughts. Just another option to ponder.

First, a couple of independent reviews from a trusted Audiophile:

http://www.definitivetech.com/reviews/BP8SR.pdf

I love the sound of DefTechs in my own home and in the homes of my friends. I do not like the sounds of DefTechs in any HT stores. Why? They don't have good speaker placement and room acoustics in these HT stores.

I can get the BP10Bs locally from a DT dealer for $700 (retail $1,000).

Take-Home message from Julian Hirsch/Stereo Review regarding the BP10s:
1) 20Hz-20kHz +/-5dB @90dB w/m.
2) Truly oustanding speaker system.True Full Range Towers.

I think he has made up his mind on the PSB Image tower T65's. Or at least it seems that way over on the other forum.

I do not see my last post so forgive me if it is reducant.

Yes, I like the PSBs, however theh have not answered my three emails, only one local dealer with none in stock while I have heard the Polks and they are nice.

I am starting to wonder if one pf the proevious poster is correct; any of the well known brnads would be jsut right and an improvement over what I have now.

An hour ago my daughter two floors up stated the whole house is shaking while I am wathcing the Posidien Adventure. I do not need loud just nice sonic tones.

I think I will go hear the Polks again.

Thats too bad that PSB isn't more responsive. I wrote them an email before posting here. I'm going to make sure that Paul Barton will find out about this. I do not want to see PSB follow Paradigm's model of poor customer service.

Please let me know if you get an answer. I would hope they answer me sooner rather than later.

BTW, did you ever get an answer. I was dead set on the PSBs but their support seems to be unacceptable to me.

I got a response from one of managing directors at PSB on Friday. He admits that there is a problem with their email response. I have sent you a private post with the director's name on Friday . Let me know if you have trouble receiving it. :)
