Not sure about your home @porge, but every house I've owned or help install in wall wiring, there has been a fire stop (cross brace) in between each stud and they are staggered at different heights every other stud. Flexible drill bits and Bang Stix make this an easy fix.

Ha! I've spent the last 2 weeks learning about fire stops! Not really bracing, per se. They're their to give you more time to gtfo if there's a fire. I just finished my home inspection classes and smoked the school exam.

When doing my in-ceiling 5ch setup in my living room we discovered my wall has 3 fire stops! On an interior wall. Sure it's next to the fireplace but HOLY SH!T that made a simple install take way too long. No drill bit was going to get to that. The ones you linked look good, but we ended up notching them and putting a screw plate in front before repairing dry wall. Didn't have time to wait for one of those bits.

very few movies out there for me to justify the trouble of installing height speakers.

FWIW I am not referring to Atmos type heights for my own use, my avr has 7/9/11 ch provisions for height speakers....
