Hi,

I know this is a beginner question. Here is the deal:
Fronts and center
AudioSource AC8W 2-Way In-Wall Speakers
Surrounds
AudioSource AC8CD - 8" Inceiling 2-Way Speaker
Sub
Disconnected to keep the bumps down and kids asleep
Pioneer 1020 Reciever
Xbox for movies and Playon

The pioneer has a "dialog enhancement" feature that only appears to work with the "front height speakers" I would like to use this feature since I can hardly hear the dialog unless the system is turned up so load I wake my two babies up.

What are "front height speakers"?
Can I connect my fronts to these connections instead of the standard connections to get this option?

What else can I do to improve my sound aside from buying decent speakers? I am on "a 2 kids under 18 months" budget and need to keep them asleep when in bed, but still be able to hear as much good sound(voice, effects etc...)

You dont need dialog enhancement, you can just turn up the level on the center channel. Check your manual on how to do that, and you should be good to go.

what dkane said...but in regards to your actual question, no, the front height speakers cannot be a replacement for your mains. they can only be used to supplement them.

Thanks to you both. I truly appreciate the help. I've tried simply bringing up the center and the volume levels simply sound crap. I wish there was an old' fashion equalizer so I could pull out the vocals more.

Out of curiosity, what benefit do the front height speakers offer?

ps I just realized I misspelled "loud"

They're just there to enhance the surround experience...like when a plane flies over you or there's rain or whatever in a movie :)
