From Z906 to Dolby Atmos

Hello everyone.

I'm replacing my old 42" FHD TV with a 65" 4K TV (Sony X900F).

At home I have a Logitech Z906 5.1, which gave me very good results for its price, but is not capable with Atmos or DTS:X.

So I'm looking for advice to choose my new 5.1.2 audio system.

- I plan to use it to watch movies and series. The minimum use will be given for music or games.

- I hope it sounds better than my current Z906. I don't need it to be the best sound system on the market.

- My living room has dimensions of 5.5 x 4.1 mtr (18'0" x 13'5" ft)

So far I have found this:

Onkyo | HT-S5805
Onkyo | HT-S7805

Any suggestion or recommendation is appreciated, keep in mind that I have an approximate budget of 1000$.

Greetings

That's a thin budget if it's for both speakers and a AV receiver. Where are you located? I ask because there should be a lot more choices of AVR, depending upon where you can shop. Speakers can be all over on price, it's availability where you are that matters. For movies, you also really need a subwoofer of some sort. If you can double or (better yet) triple that budget for everything, you might be able to do a decent job.

I created (twice now) a 5.1 system for my guest room with a $500 budget, but in both cases it was a combination of "new old stock", used, and already-had-it components.

Hello I live in Europe, to be more exact in Spain.

I know that the budget of about $1000 is low, although it is possible that I can expand a little.

Keep in mind that I come from a 5.1 system that cost me $350 and actually did a great job, except for not decoding the new formats.

As reusable, the only thing I could use are the 5.0 speakers.
But I don't think it's the best idea. The best thing about this audio equipment is the subwoofer and it's integrated, so I can't reuse it.

Thanks

Hello, there are many brands and vendors.
In the following image I will put some of the brands that can be bought here for receivers and for loudspeakers.

I think Amazon will afford the best pricing for you to get the best values. Be aware that most on this forum are US based, and prices here may be less for something like Klipsch and higher for Dali, while you may see the opposite.

With you wanting Atmos installation, would you be more likely to add installed ceiling speakers for the 2 or 4 Atmos channels, or use Atmos "enabled" reflecting speakers? Your ceiling height with either does matter.

Hi, don't worry I understand that the prices may vary according to the country, there are times that favors me and others that do not.

The height to my ceiling is 2.6 mtr (8'7" ft).

The truth is that I have pretty bad the possibility of putting speakers in the ceiling.

I think the best thing I can do is to use Atmos "enabled" reflecting speakers.

Although I understand that I will lose effectiveness by not being put directly on the ceiling, I hope it is still worth it and notice some difference with a 5.1 system.

Thanks

In your budget, I wouldn't worry about an Atmos system. Your budget is too thin, and would be badly diluted by spreading that out among 7 or more speakers, a subwoofer, and an AVR. I would start out with a two channel system, and add speakers as your pocketbook allows.

Do you mean that none of these two models that I put:

Onkyo | HT-S5805
Onkyo | HT-S7805

Will not get better sound than the Z906, leaving aside the new features that does not incorporate my Z906?
Thanks

If you are just ticking off checkboxes for features, yeah, those systems have a list of features and are not very expensive. They will not sound amazing though. A good two-channel system would sound much better than a mediocre 5.1.2 system.

Thank you very much for your reply.
By the way, over the budget I've seen these 5.1.2 speakers without a receiver.

Focal Sib Evo 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos

Do you think they would be good, or would they still fall short in quality?

Thanks

I think you should go out and demo some systems, so you have an idea about the difference between these systems and something that uses some really serious speakers. If there is a store near you that has a system like these satellite speakers, go and demo it, and then go see if there is a store that demos some serious tower speakers or good sized bookshelf speakers. I can tell you that there will be a real difference, but I can't really convey the idea to you like your own experience. Before spending your money, go demo different types of sound systems.

I'll do as you say, thank you very much for your help
