Hello-
so here is the deal, i recently bought an apartment, when i moved in i went into the atic and found 4 500 watt custom built DJ speakers, now i thought this was very exciting, however i already have a stereo system in good working order and i own nothing that could power these. i have begun looking at cheap amps and cannot decide where to go, i am not looking to spend much money at all seeing as buying the appartment basically made me broke lol and these speakers were free i dont exactly want to put a ton of money into them.
i went on ebay and have found what appears to be a good deal to me its a 4 channel 2000 watt amplifier, which is exaclty what i am looking for, it is made by technical pro which i know nothing of. i cannot cannot spend over 200 dollars on this, anyone have nay advice on an amp that will do the trick?
Thank you

For an apartment, you probably dont need anything too crazy to make these work. Typically, these types of speakers are really efficient and don't require tons of power for a small space. You'll also need more than just an amp. Knowing more about the speakers would certainly help. If they were custom made, how are you getting the 500 watt number?

You might look at some powered mixers. The problem is most of the ones in your price range only output two channels.

You could probably get away with an older HT receiver not rich in features but has a little more power.

well, i found out because i called the previosu owner, who apparently had a son who was a dj of sorts, (only his own parties which apparently consisted of him and a few friends lol) and he told me when his son moved out he left the speakers and none of them wanted them, he knew the 500 watt info.

second, what i was planning on doing was buying an amp and hooking it up to my current reciever, rather then buying a mixxer, however i dont know much about this world to be honest so i could use some advice.
thank you
like to be honest i have no idea what a powered mixxer is

You can get a pair of Pro power amps from Yamaha, just ask Chris, our expert.
You can also check for used power amps at Audiogon, power amps are very cheap nowdays. I bet you can get a stereo power amp with 500 watts per channel for a couple hundred.

Where you at?

Maybe you could try selling the speakers.

Technical pro isn't widely loved. The good cheap stuff are behringer amps.

You can try out a behringer A500.

On Craigslist look for used QSC amps. They are widely used and great for the price usually. I plan on nagging one for my subs.

Before you spend too much time or money.
Since you don't know how long the speakers were up in a hot attic;
I'd test them out on a receiver you already own, or can borrow.

There's a good chance the glue is dried out, along with the surrounds.

i did, they sound fine, got em up pretty loud to and they sounded fine. which suprised me, i cant figure out why this kid didnt want them. whatever i have new speakers, and the dad said that the kid moved out about a year ago, and only had the speakers for about two year, i figure he was just spoiled and didnt care.

Do you know yourself? We were just waiting for your expertise.
No but I would have asked before I started loading up the amps on him:rolleyes: Old speakers that dont sound good + new high power amp + pre amp= waste of time and money. As mentioned any stereo receiver will power these speakers;)

This amp while amazing is way out of your price range.
Oh, I didn't realise that it was that expensive. Thanks lsiberian to let us know.
So, what's the price of it, if I may ask so?

Then, he'll be much better with a couple Behringer A500 amps?
What's the price of those?

What's QSC amps?

Instead of waiting for me to make mistakes, why don't you take the initiative,
and come up with better solutions?
I'm just trying to help, why don't you?

Beacuse I dont reply to every single thread:) I asked the question about what would be used as a pre, didnt I? But the logic still follows that the speakers should be tested first, second explain to the OP just beacuse a speakers states 500 watts it doesnt mean jack. Throwing amps at him and assuming everything else isnt being much help is it

So what is the OP going to use as a pre:confused:
His receiver as stated in the post above.

Also they are custom made DJ speakers that he's already tested. I'm sure they can take 500watts.

That's not necessary for home use though. You can use your receiver just fine. Don't waste money on amps that aren't real upgrades.
