emusic.com is running a promo where you get 50 free MP3 downloads.

http://emusic.com/ray

You have to register for the service, but you can cancel immediately after downloading your songs. I did it and was a member for about 10 minutes! No DRM on the files and I received no spam afterwards. The selection is broad, but many specific titles I searched were not there.

Also, I don't know if any of you use http://yourmusic.com. All CD's are $5.99 with free shipping (they do charge sales tax). You have to sign up for their subscription service where they ship you one CD a month (this is how I ration my music purchses!). Box sets are at the same rate (for example a 3-CD box set would be $17.97). They have a broad collection and many of the titles I want are there (many are not, though). They have a limited number of dual discs with DVD included for the same $5.99. I've been using this service for about a year and a half and am pleased with it.

e-music is a great site. Especially for indie product. You can also keep re-joining and get 90 downloads for 20.00. Which is a damn good deal. Especially if they have what you are looking for. They also have the booster packs at 50 for 15.00. Which is a fantastic deal as well. So for cheap cost of 35.00. You get 140 downloads. Not bad. Especially considering they use a higher than average VBR bit rate.

Thanks for the info. I'm getting tired of Bearshares poor quality. Luckily I still have the old "no spam" version.

allofmp3.com has dowloads at $0.02 a megabyte. You can choose your bit rate or even get the .wav file if you want. It is a Russian site, and it is legal in Russia. Is it leagl to download the songs onto an American computer? I do not know. My biggest concern was you had to deposit money into your account using a credit card. I have been using them for a year now and no problems. I would recommend getting a Visa/Mastercard gift card and use that instead of your own personal credit card, just in case.
