If it's in writing that the Definitive will be installed, they should be installed unless you got the change in writing. Google both brands and look for reviews- I haven't heard that OnQ is particularly great and one of my distributors sells them. I haven't been particularly moved to check them out, either.

After looking them up, I wouldn't trust your dealer.

The OnQ can be bought for about $100/pair and the Definitive list at $249 each- look at the OnQ crossover and if there's nothing to it, tell them you'll cancel the whole deal if they keep lying to you. They may like the OnQ more because they make a lot more money on them or they may have lost the Definitive line. Either way, they're not being honest.

Excellent info by Highfigh...

Armed with that, you have a 3rd choice....audition the ON-Qs and if you really like them, offer to keep them if they reduce the cost by the difference in speaker price. They would have an incentive to avoid addl installation labor cost....having said that, at this point, I would be tempted to tell them to do a removal, repairing and damage and leave...I certainly would not trust them at this point...

i would DEMAND they put in what you want, or you will not pay(HOPE you paid with a credit card). but don't say the onq's are junk, as you don't "know" that.
just say thats is not what you wanted. and be nice, but firm, about it.

saying that. seems to me they are a lower brand. and would not perform well.

Curious...

Taking a survey?

I found it intresting that you were a lawyer and needed non-professional guidance here. I find it even more curious that you found the need to ask at least two different sites as well.

From the AV-Review forum, "and by the way whats bbb?"

WTF? What lawyer doesn't know what that is?

I can understand someone in a field that's not remotely associated with audio and that many people just never had any interest in audio or video until they build a house or have a system installed, but at this point in the internet's history, I cannot understand how someone who has gone to college or even a decent grade school who doesn't know how to do an online search to get information about products and how they differ in performance and price.

Now that I know this has been asked in another forum, it almost seems like a small dealer who realized that he'll lose money on a job if the agreed equipment is used and needs to scramble to find something that costs a lot less, in order to make some money that they wouldn't, otherwise. If the equipment was listed in writing, that needs to be installed unless a change order of some kind is used and signed by all parties. It's nice to work with verbal agreements, but it's not a good way to make sure things are done to the customer's satisfaction.

Well, being from Columbia would certainly explain not knowing about the Better Business Bureau, but as for the remedies for your situation: You've received several variations on the same theme and our legal system and our personal moral beliefs.

What do you want to hear or, better yet, what remedies exist under your legal system?

It's best to include some personal information when you post to a forum like this. It's not possible for us to know much about you, otherwise. Also, your consumer protection laws are probably different from ours here, although a consumer should be protected anywhere.

As I posted, if you had an agreement with the installer and they changed something without consulting with you, I wouldn't allow it and since they installed speakers that are less than half of the price of the ones you wanted, I would definitely have a problem with this situation.

It's too bad they did this with your first system- I'll bet it doesn't give you a good impression of the industry.
