Forum newbie but av veteran seeking advice/answer desperately

Currently running a yamaha rx-v671 and honestly it's been flawless up until a few weeks ago. My center AND subwoofer stopped getting any signal; both at the same time. I've scoured every forum and done everything within reason I can possibly find with no results. It isn't any wire or any setting and my multimeter reads no voltage on the lfe and no power from the center terminal. I could find peace in claiming my receiver is faulty if it hadn't been both outputs at once (and those particular outputs being so very different). I would appreciate it immensely if a knowledgeable gentleman could find the time to either help me understand what has taken place, what I need to do, etc... I'm at my wits end and even lose sleep rolling this over & over in my head so all the gratitude in the world to whomever answers... thanks, Jamie

@TLS Guy guy might be able to provide some insights since he’s an electronics maven (among other talents), but realistically unless the receiver is under warranty, it’s probably a better route to cut your losses. They don’t make stuff like they used to, at least at price points most people could hope to afford.

Thanks... even that for a second opinion is monumental. I hadn't fully considered it until now but I believe I've had this avr since 2015 (give or take a little) so I have a dreadful expectation that you're most likely correct.

As you’re probably aware, receivers are effectively a combo of a preamp and a power amp (and tuner, DAC, etc). My best guess is that the preamp is basically cooked, and it can certainly affect multiple channels (including those then routed through the power amp).

Have you done a factory/microprocessor reset of the avr? Just sounds like a mode selection thing but need more details.

ps I'd just do a soft reset to start, i.e. unplug the avr from power for a little bit.

The answer is that with digital processors just about anything can happen and often does.

Before you abandon that unit, I would try at least three hard resets. Really that is all you can do. Those receivers are from 2011. Generally the max lifespan of these types of units is around 14 years. You can be lucky and get a bit more, but usually longevity tends towards a shorter lifespan.

I have just had to recycle a relatively expensive pre/pro at just five years. It is a roll of the dice how long these complex units will last. The spares situation is seldom as good as it should be. In my case there were no parts available. I spoke with 2 authorized factory service centers. That is the part I regard as a disgrace.

Yeah I hate it when I try and solve a problem and end without a good answer.
Good thing you are an AV veteran as now you get to go on the hunt for a replacement. Comparing options and rolling choices over in your mind to arrive at a new solution. I do enjoy the hunt once I am forced into it. Good luck.

I believe page 98 has instructions for resetting the system (Restoring the default settings - INIT). If a factory reset does not help as TLS Guy suggested, then the unit needs servicing or replacement.
