Hi.
I'm not exactly new to good AVR equipment, however I am reentering the field. My kids are now adults, when they were young my son blew out my B&W speakers (DM4's that's how long ago) so I decided to buy generic speakers. Now that they have grown I bought an Outlaw Processor 976 and 3 Outlaw mono-blocks, along with Martin Logan speakers. It is so nice to enjoy good music again. Now that I've returned to buying equipment its become clear to me that much has gone on that I don't know about. Principal among this is the streaming device. Right now my device for streaming is a Roku, I can hear you all laughing already. The question I have is what kind of device would be good for a person like me, I have no interest in ripping from CD's I am only interested in streaming quality sound digitally and allowing the DAC in the Outlaw processor do its job.
Any advice would be welcome
Thank-you

You mean streaming from internet services or your own network or both or ?

PS Its not a bad way to go to rip CDs rather than play the discs....

Actually all i'm interested in doing is getting a good signal to my DAC and I don't know where to begin.

Okay, let's back up. What is the Roku not doing you would like it to do? What about your computer as streamer?

The roku is streaming autio files and television, It sounds good but i'm aware that there are better devices for doing the job of streaming audio.

What does the Roku or its particular apps lack in handling of digital data? Is it limited to 16/44.1 and you want hi-res or something?

I Don't know the details as to the numbers. Im a classical music and Jazz fan and Roku doesn't have an app for Qobuz, I know Tydal is good but if they have limited classical i would rather go to Qobuz

How about Amazon? They have cd quality (16/44.1) files to stream plus some hi-res selections (which may not yield anything audibly better for playback) as does Qobuz (and to an extent Tidal, I'm not a fan of Tidal and their MQA bullshit, tho). I have tried Qobuz and found it easier to use than a trial of Tidal and had a library more suited to me (I am not much of a classical fan, but pretty eclectic otherwise). Personally I'm fine with Spotify for streaming online (I use mostly my own collection streamed thru my network). A Chromecast Audio unit might be a consideration (in conjunction with apps on your computer/phones/tablets etc). If you want something a little fancier for hardware many like the Bluesound products.
