Focal Chorus 705V

I'm interested in purchasing a pair of Focal Chorus 705Vs for my room with a Yamaha RX-v365 receiver. The sub will come later and after that the center and surround speakers.

Will this be a good system?

How large is the room and distance from the seating area to the speaker? Its 8 ohm but a sensitivity of 88db.

I'd rather a pair of Ascend 170 SE for similar money. Maybe even less money, depending.

My room is about 12' by 8' (4m by 3m) and I would be sitting no more than 8' away from the speakers. But I am planning on moving them into the family frrom when we upgrade the TV in there and the family room has dimensions of 15' by 12' (5m by 4m) and also sitting about 8' away from the speakers.

If you are going to use a sub crossed at 80 or 90 it would be ok but IMO with your avr I'd want a speaker with a higher sensitivity.
The 170s that Jmeat mentioned or the 340s will be more efficient in room and less taxing on the amp. Excellent crossovers and well made.

Thanks, I dont have any reciever at the moment any other sujestions? Thats just what I was thinking of buying allong with the speakers.

I am new to the whole HT thing and really appreciate the help.

A good rule of thumb is to find the speaker you like by demoing as many as possible, take notes and use music that you are familiar with, then get the avr that can effec drive them. If you state a full budget others will chime in. This is a fun part of the process.

Yeah Im going to go look at some more speakers tomorrow. I have just been looking at Axiom's M3 v2 Bookshelf speakers online and was wondering your opinion on them. As for a full budget I was thinking of a max of $1300AU for the reciever and the front L&R speakers and a sub if possable. I would prefer to spend less of-corse.
