FNG looking for help

I am fairly new to the world of "real" audio equipment. I graduated college and just got back from Iraq and planning to set up my Home Theater. I have been reading as much as I can but still need some input on what speakers to consider. To give you an idea of where I'm coming from, I almost bought the Bose Acoustimass 10 system (please don't hate).

I have pretty much settled on the Samsung 46" 6 series (650) LCD and Denon 1909 (i got a sweet deal on it so I'm sticking with it). I have thought about the Energy Take Classic 5.1 but I wonder if the 8" woofer will be weak, or maybe something from "The Speaker Company"?. I thought about piecing it together but there is so much out there I don't know where to start. This will be used for movies/TV 95% of the time with music only occasionally. I would like to stick to bookshelf but if you can help me convince the Wife I'll look at floor standing

My room is 16x21 with just under 8' ceilings, closed with 2 open doorways. It is a finished room so running cables is going to be interesting (I can't go into the ceiling because the rafters run the wrong direction. I'm pretty limited on room orientation so keep that in mind.

My budget is $1k but would like to come back with change (the Wife has authorized up to 1k because she wanted the bose but I convinced her otherwise). If I need to go over 1k I will if the quality is a big jump.

I have had good results with the Definitive Technology ProCinema line. The 600s should be in your price range.

Go find yourself a local dealer that carries a viariety of brands and take some time to listen. Pick some in your budget range and some that are above that.

From there you can come back with what you like and we can maybe give you some additional suggestions.

Very good advice from Fred. That's exactly what I was going to say with one added comment. Don't listen to anything way over your price limit. I made that mistake and fell in love with speakers I really can't afford (yet). Also, a good external amplifier can give you a big boost in sound quality. It's something you can add later on if you want.

Thanks everyone, I chose the Energy Take Classic 5.1. It sounded pretty good and I don't think I have a sensitive enough palette for the really expensive stuff yet.

I listened to a bunch and they all seemed pretty equal to me. I guess I'll save up for future power. I realized I'm a bass addict and will need a huge one at some point.

Take a look at the SVS packages. You can get a good 5.1 setup with a nice 10" sub for just under a grand or the same speakers with a 12" sub for just over ($89 before shipping). They are worth a look and fit the budget pretty well.
