Hello,

I'm planning on getting a home theater system that I plan to use primarily for music (CDs, and mp3), but also for DVD/bluray and videogames in a medium sized room (15 x 20 ft). I'm an audio rookie but am avoiding HTIBs since I want this system to last and be high quality.

I'm trying to decide between the Aperion 5T, Definitive Technology BP6, and Klipsch WF 34. I've listened to the latter two, but not the Aperions. I was leaning toward an Aperion 5t setup due to favorable reviews, friend's recommendation, the 10 year warranty and quality craftsmanship from what I've read. However, the price for the entire 5.1 system would be around $3000 (with a $500-$600 receiver), which is probably about $500-$1000 greater than what I could get with the DT or Klipsch packages I listened to at my local retailer.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'd like to spend about $2000-$2500 for the full system with receiver.

My personal tastes would be to suggest the Aperion speakers, Why not call them and setup the 30 in-home trial and see if you are happy with their sound and if its the sound you want. Give yourself a few weeks to get adapted and if you don't like them return them.

Personally I find the Klipsch a little to harsh for myself with music, movies are ok, but I like a warm to nuetral sound.

The other thing you could do is look at getting the speaker sans the sub and get an internet direct sub, something like and elemental Designs, or Hsu or SVS.

Have you auditioned a lot of speakers?

See the thread attached

Including the speaker competition....I am a Klipsch veteran and looked at the WF line...I kinda got the idea these were the "art decco" models sold more on cosmetics with smaller drivers.....the RF 62s reviewed are less money and probably a better performer....just my $.02........

I myself do not like Klipsh at all. They sound very harsh to my ears.I would really like to get an Aperion set myself as every one of their speakers I have heard ,albeit 2 sets were amazing. Also the 30 day in home listening test is a very very good thing. You may get the Klipsh's home and hate them after a week. With the Aperions you can send them back..........

Out of the 3 I'd pick Def Tech. I heard Aperions at a show once, and didn't like them at all. The only Klipsch that I like are the old originals... Def Techs are pretty nice speakers - it really depends on your tastes.

For around $1800 shipped you could purchase an Ascend Acoustics CMT-340/CMT-340C/HTM-200 combo w/stands and an SVS PB12-NSD.

As others have said Aperion is worth a listen since you have 30 days to return with no cost to you. Do you have a preference with how you listen to music? IE. will you be using a subwoofer, or listening in a 'direct' mode with only the towers?

The reason I ask is if you prefer to listen in 'direct' mode with no sub, I would suggest trying the 6T's over the 5T's. If you plan on using a sub, then it may not matter quite as much. I don't know what your buying plan is, but you do not need to get everything at once, maybe start with 3.1 and add the surrounds later when you have funds again. Also, if you order the Aperion's, check their Open Box area under the product list first, or contact them. If you can find what you want to order as an open box it's 15% off, and I believe you still get 30 days to audition.

For full disclosure, I have the 6T's (and a 5C), and listen to music in 'pure direct' mode.

Thanks for the replies everyone, you've been very helpful. I haven't auditioned many speakers, really only the DefTech BP6 and Klipsch wf 34. I'm going to visit a different audio store in my area this weekend to sample other brands.

Armaraas, I am planning on getting a subwoofer. I'd like to have the surround setup for movies, but you raise a good point, maybe I can get by with 3.1 for now.

Leaning towards Aperion, or at least giving them a trial if I don't find a perfect fit at a store.

I'd go with the Aperions myself, but that's me. Give them a listen as you have nothing to lose.

I'll second that. I've not heard the others, but I'll wager you won't be disappointed by ANY stretch of the imagination with that combination. 30-day guarantee I'll bet you wouldn't even have to take advantage of.

(Admitted bias; I have -and love- the Ascends) :D

I have Aperion speakers and a SV PB13 Ultra sub very happy with the sound of the 7.1 setup...but with that being said I still want to give JTR a try.
