Can you also grasp the reality of trying to do business in those same areas?

They probably can't afford the cost of the building, or maybe the taxes are killing them there....
Very true.

The midwest is the place to be for lower overhead, and were also known for our serial killers... :) Lets not forget Cheeseheads, Beer, and Brats !!!!!

The only dealers for them in the area are Fry's Electronics. They do not have dedicated listening rooms. I listened to an Rti A9 in the store. I cannot say whether the speaker was bad, the CD was or the processor was bad. It sounded really bad in that environment. They had only A9 on display. They had A5 in stock. The guy asked me to take home and return within 30 days if I did not like them. Fry's has 30 day return policy. I did not, because I have heard from anybody about how these speakers are.
 Seriously confused.

First off. Pretty sure the demo room, and equipment were not set-up properly.

Second off. An offer to take them home at no risk. Are you ok?

Third off.:D You found a good speaker you like, with a cabinet that is pleasing to you, and a good dealer. Uhhhh? Do you not have the means to get them to your home?:p JK

Seriously, I would do this. You found a cool dealer with MA. See if they will let you demo them at home. Take home a pair. Go to Fry's, get the A5's. Test side-by-side with the RS6's in your home. Everybody is happy.:D If you do this, come back and post a shootout between the two, with a sure winner. Oh joy!:)

It was not. I would not even call it a demo room.

I could try the same with with Monitor Audio RS6/8 too :) I think they have a 2 week return policy. Now my question is which one will I take home? MA or Infinity? If I have to go by all the discussions on this site, Infinity is not recommended or talked a lot about. Since I did not get a good feel for the Infiinity from the demo and from the forums, I decided to look for more information before I think about bringing them home.

Are you referring to MA's? That is more complicated. I am planning for a TV upgrade as well. I may be able to get a better price for the MA's if I purchase the TV as well from them. But the TV is planned for the second half of November when I take a few days off.

That is a good idea :)

I hate to do that to the dealers though. The item that I return will have to be sold as open box, if they are honest. I will go in that direction if that is my only option.

Infinity? I thought we were talking about Polk Audio RTi A5's? Infinity can't hold a candle to MA.

Bummer. I meant Polk, sorry. Infinity does not have an RTi series :)

If you are worried about either dealer, tell both of them your plans. Tell both of them the looser will be getting returned. They both know you will need other products in the future, and shouldn't have a problem with the in-home shootout at all. It is their policy.;) Let us know your opinion of the two speakers, and the winner. This is just as much fun for us, as it is for you.

Polk ATi A?

Today I went to another Fry's Electronics that had a better demo room. They have A5's and A9's in stock but only had an A9 on display. All were in black finish.

There were no good demo CD/DVD to listen to, but I tried whatever they had. A9 did not impress me. I switched the signal to LSi15 and it sounded better but not good enough. The speakers were powered by an Onkyo TX-NR1000.

I tried various listening modes including stereo and tried adjusting bass, treble etc to see if there is anything I can do to make them sound good to me. The speakers were about 8" away from the front wall and I could not change that. I have only that much space to leave from front wall in my room.

I think I liked MA RS6 better than the RTi A9. I think I should try the B&W 684 one more time.

PS: For the first time in a long time, I found a helpful sales person at Fry's.

Can't remember the application, but I would like to offer this information.

I would choose MA first if the speakers were to be used full-range, without a sub. They sound the best out of the three for that application. When you add a sub, I feel they are lacking. They are too smooth, and seem to be beaten by the other two.

Now, the fun part. When a sub is added, this is where the B&W shine for me. If you audition a speaker by itself, you may feel it is to forward, or harsh. But, this changes drastically when the sub is added.

The Polks are in the middle. They have the strong, forward mid-range, with the mild tweets.

I'm usually more of a lurker around here, but I figured I'd throw another name into the mix. If you still have patience to listen to something different, check out the Vandersteen 1c. They list for $850, and in my opinion, can't be touched for the money. I really don't know why Vandy speakers don't get more attention on the boards, but it seems that those who have them love them. Although, they are not the most atractive speaker in the world, looking basically like a rectangular sock.

Like I posted before

If you have a PSB dealer in your area, check them out. It'll be a worthwhile audition

It is MA RS8!

Thanks everyone for all the advice!

I decided to go for MA RS8's for front's. I skimped on the surrounds to make up for the difference. I chose Radius R90's as surrounds. Good enough. I am pretty much done with my HT upgrade. Got a really good deal from Magnolia (not the BB kind). Vienna's tempted me when auditioned while waiting for some information but I cannot afford them at this moment.

My Xbox 360 crashed and is going out for repair

Everything is at home. I hooked up all speakers but custom install will be done this week. :) These speakers sound awesome.

To get the best prices, I chose Denon AVR 4308CI instead of Onkyo TX-SR 875 as part of the package. Magnolia does not carry Onkyo.

You're welcome!

Congrats! Damn dude, that is one fine HT setup! Man, Id love to have a 60" Kuro! Vienna's do sure sound nice. It seemed to me that the Mozart Grands were a good sweet spot in their lineup, but I think those might be 3k a pair...

My brother's X-box died as well. The red lights of death. I bought him a new one for a B-day gift. First time I've ever paid for an extended warranty, and not even for me. I have no idea why I bought such a nice gift for a doctor... he's a good brother I suppose :p

Good to hear a story end well (our help is not wasted!).... Cheers.

The 60" Kuro is amazing. We knew if we purchased the 50", we would have the upgraditis pretty soon. With this one, I am pretty sure we are settled for a good while.

The Mozart Grands are still close to 3 grands. It was almost the same price my friend paid almost 2 years ago. He has the first PRO-FHD1 which is 50". He recommended that I get the Pioneer Elite based on his experience.

The red lights of death are covered under a special 3 year warranty from Microsoft. But the 3 year extended warranty is a good decision because the 360's have so many other issues that are not covered under the one year warranty for everything else. For this repair I am told that I will have to pay.

Congrats on finding the right speaks. FYI, the 6010 is not an Elite model.

Congrats on your speaker purchase. I've been living with Monitors for almost 2 years now, with no regrets. There are way too many choices out there for speakers, many of them very good. I think I could have been just as happy with other brands, but my cherry MAs are very satisfying. Enjoy!

Images - Before Custom Install

3 days to custom install.

This is how I have set it up. TV will go to the wall behind.

This is TV Packing. Should have paid more attention to the model number :)

One of the R90's on the wall.

I will post more pictures after CI.

I am not sure why you are having a custom install done. All you need to do at this point is hide your wires.
