I am getting a lot of flickering on my display recently. It is more pronounced on the left side and easier to see when the source material is light in color. Happens with all sources. DLP has about 5,000 hours logged in.

What could this be?

Must be the lamp. A friend of mine also owns a Mitsubishi DLP and he said it started flickering before the light bulb burned out.

Definitely a lamp. Let me know if you need help replacing it. If you send us the model number we might be able to find instructions on replacing it and a deal on the bulb.

Your lamp model number is

MITSUBISHI 915P061010\

http://www.discount-merchant.com/Mitsubishi-915P061010-Lamp-Complete-lamp-assembly-p/mitsubishi-915p061010-lamp-enc.htm

There may be better deals out there. But I do suggest replacing the entire housing. It's easier and your less likely to shatter or harm the lamp.

The lamp spot is on the right side of the back.

http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/support.html

refer to page 69 of your owner's manual for detailed instructions on how to do the replacement. It's pretty good from what I read.

If you need to get your manual go to the site above and click on Product Documents.

It's the same lamp as for my model as well, hopefully I won't have to replace mine any time soon though. Lamp replacement is the only grip I have with DLP technology, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought it, so I can't complain too much. It's worth it though for the large size tv, especially for what it cost.

Thanks for this thread. Now I know what to look for as my bulb is approaching 4000 hrs. I have a Mitsubishi 57732 and I've noticed recently that the picture is slightly darker.

Also check ebay for these lamps/bulbs. My parents got a bulb only for their rear projection lcd tv on ebay for cheap.

My Samsung HL-S6187W is going on 7000 hours and I'm still on the first bulb. The secret is to calibrate it so you don't have the brightness and contrast jacked up.

I'll tell you:

With the set off, QUICKLY press Mute -> 1 -> 8 -> 2 -> Power.

When I say quickly, I mean quickly. If you do it correctly, you'll see the service menu on the screen. Since I haven't tampered in there for a while, I can't remember which menu option shows the number of hours used, but it's definitely in there. Use the menu and enter buttons to navigate.

5224 hours on my first bulb; replaced it today and brother what a difference!

Don't want to step on any toes, but I paid $139 delivered from DLP LampSource for just the bulb for my Mitsu 57732 TV. Install was easy and the box came with a return shipping label so I can send the old one back for proper disposal.

That source was only 10 more for the lamp, but I found the bulb for 120 somewhere online.
