Flea market Turntable problem.

I have a Panasonic SD-203 that I just bought at a flea market. This is an old turntable with a preamp in it(I am pretty sure). Everything seemed ok until I plugged it in. I hooked it up to the stereo AUX in my stereo system and only the left speaker output on the TT works. I have switched the cables and have played around with the radio and phono but I can’t get the right speakers to output. What should I do? Can I fix it or is it now and forever will be a monotone record player? Any advice would be helpful.

I was always under the impression that Hi Fi vinyl was mono?

I could be and probably am wrong, though.

Welcome to the forum, BTW.

Give your questions some time, though... I'm sure there are others here that will be able to help you!

Stereo and Quad

NO this unit should play stereo.
This device has marks/holes for a stereo and a quad stereo where you have front and back left and rights.

I looked up that model, and found out it's a Phono/Radio all-in-one that were popular in the '60s & '70s. If the radio also has only one channel of audio, the problem is probably in the amplifier 'innards' and may not be worth the money to have it repaired. If you're at all handy, you might open it up and look for any obvious problems like broken wires. Follow the wires from the output jacks and look for anything disconnected.

looking inside

Neither the radio nor the phono have right speakers working. It has a channel for mono, and stereo for the radio. I have opened the box but have not found any broken wires form what I can tell. Any other suggestions or comments?

Here is the only info I could find on it in YOutube form.
sadly I can't post it here because I need to post a few more times to post links. but look up the model number with panasonic and it should be the only relevant info on it.

I like to think that I can hold my own as a post whore, but to Alex I must bow and chant...

Geno suggested that the radio might have only one channel for audio but it has one for mono and stereo. Also both the radio and the phono(with a record of course) modes only output sound from the left speakers. Is that what you were asking Alex? Sorry if I mistyped, I am a newbie to vinyls and record players but I really am interested. Thanks again for all the help and please keep the ideas and suggestions coming.

Make one more post so that you can post links and pic's.

That previous post was me and Adam goofing around.

Ok. I am still looking for a loose wire or something but I am not an expert. I might try to replace the RCA plugs but I don't know yet. I will post the links here soon.

I would hold off on replacing anything without determining that it is in need of repair. I'm no expert either but I can't see why that unit would have RCA plugs. Maybe you mean speaker outputs.

I have been talking to the guy who worked on his.
I'm sure he knows more than I do but I must say that this is the first time I have ever heard anybody recommend WD-40 like he does. They have special lotions and potions for that stuff and based on that alone I would be a little suspicious of his advice.

Your player may very well be beyond repair but welcome to the forum. How about posting a pic of the back of your player? If you see any fuses in there you might check them with an Ohm meter.

I guess there aren't too many more suggestions on what to do besides check the current. Another forum said I might have to do the same.

Do you know where I can rent an ohms meter? I don't want to spend $20 on something I will use only once. I might have to just wait until next week to go to the flea market again.

Ok after doing basically nothing but opening and closing the unit the right speaker is working now. It is a little softer than the left but at least it is now in stereo. I have some pops and hisses when I am playing a record. Mostly when there is a loud drum beat or a burst of singing (I have a prince album on there I found at goodwill ).

I want to know do you think I shouhld replace my needle or do you think it is just the record?

Also is there a place that can tell me how to keep my record and record players maintained (clean/good quality)?
