Fit and Finish on Ascend Subs

I recently posted a thread on actually completely dropping my sub out of my system and replacing it (and the current fronts) with something more high-end that could replace both. My thought was that since most of my listening was for music (say 80%), I could live without a sub. Also, I have an SVS cylinder - which is big and pretty ugly, though it's built well and performs.

After some back and forth, I think most posters advised that I might be better keeping the fronts I have (studio 40 v4s) and getting one or two subs of the sealed variety. But for WAF, whatever I get MUST be pretty.

My attention was drawn to the Ascends in gloss black. The downfiring 15s in particular caught my eye because they seem to be just the right size and have recieved a lot of positive praise re: performance.

But I don't know much about the company or its subs - seems to have been built mainly on its speaker building prowess.

Can people give me some thoughts on the company (service?) and the fit and finish of their subs? How would it compare with SVS for example (or others) in terms of quality?

Ascend doesn't make subs. They never have. They resell subs from other manufacturers. I am not sure who makes the subs for Rythmik, but I don't doubt they will be quality units. I have only heard a DIY version of the F12 and it is a very good sub performance wise. Ascend's build quality on their speakers is excellent, but I am not sure they are providing the enclosures for the subs for Rythmik.

That would be mine. :D

Still think it's a great little sub for the money. Just wish I could have made the cabinet prettier.

Brian from Rythmik makes and builds the and designs every and all parts for the subs to enclosures.....

They are truly top notch subs and the SQ is fantastic, he even sent a prototype of one of his subs to me for one of my GTGs, a great guy to deal with and very very informed about his technology.

What I haven't seen mentioned is who manufactures them for Rythmik?
The aluminum ones (as used in the referenced Ascend subs) are sourced from TCSounds. Very high quality products, used by many "high end" companies.

cheers,

AJ

I've talked to him a few times back when I bought my amp. He is a very sharp guy. I was kind of hoping it was them who built the enclosures because if he takes that kind of care with the boxes as he does with everything else, then I wouldn't question the quality of anything they do :)

Yes, I know who makes Rythmik's drivers. If I build a DIY, it will be the Rythmik/GR servo design.

I stand corrected. No longer TC eh? Been a long while since I last communicated with Brian.
I wonder if that will continue now that TC has reorganized? I suppose it may be tough to beat those (whole thing) made in China prices.

I would imagine that Brian will likely stick with what is working for him instead of try to go through all the headache of resourcing...

I don't know if anyone can truly state that TC-Sounds is out of the dark just yet.... just starting back into the game.
