First time buyer needs some tips!

Hey guys, nice place you have here .. I just picked up a new Outlaw Audio 990 and 5 Outlaw Audio Model 2200 Monoblocks .. I must say I have a few of my old school radio shack speakers plugged in and these old *** speakers never sounded so good .. LOL .. Anywho, I have my eye on the DT BP7001SC's. I have read good things and bad things about them on this board. Coming from a guy that hasn't heard many highend speakers, but is looking for something killer thats around sub <5k for two speakers. Would these speakers satisfy my needs or should I look elsewhere ?

Def Techs are awesome Get the CLR3000 center also

I got the speakers one level down from yours BP7002s and they are phenomenal with the CLR3000 center.

Also consider a SVS or Hsu subwoofer.

Why would I need another subwoofer on top of what the 7001SC already has ? Isn't it like 1500 watts of sub-w00fing per speaker?!

The CLR3000 has a powered sub
The 7001SC has a powered sub. I have the 7002s whuch have a powered sub also.

When the gain is turned up on the tower or center subs it is pretty substantial. However, if you want the really earth-shaking Jurrasic Park feel you need a dedicated sub.

I would suggest that first, in your case, don't buy a separate sub and then if you are not satisfied then buy a separate sub.

I curently have a smaller older (5 years old) Def Tech sub, ProSub100 , which I have not upgraded yet. it adds some additioanl low end, but the CLR3000 and the 7002s have pretty good bass by themselves.

The DT 7001s put out good quality bass, but they don’t provide the visceral bass that people want for HT purpose. For that, you want a true subwoofer. If the $5K is meant to cover the L/R + sub, there are many fine options available. You may want to elaborate on the specific usage of your system. How big is your room (LxWxH)? If your room can handle it, 2.5/3-way bookshelf/monitor/floorstanders combined with stereo (dual) subs will put a big smile on your face. And in actuality these days, you can get a high-quality 5.2 setup for your $5k!

Try the built-in Def Tech subs first ....

...You can always buy an SVS or Hsu Subwoofer later at ($400+).

SVS and Hsu are some of the best subs; Def Tech sub is good also.

If you want the monster sub get a JL Audio FATHOM f113 , $3400 though

The visceral effect they are talking about I call the "Jurassic Park" effect. If you want hte water on your table to shake then get a good sub.

+1, the subs in the dt's are not a replacement for the lfe, while they can handle the musical aspect of low frequency. With your budget you can explore alot of options. Room size and surface materials will play a part in "your rooms" sound. Good Luck and 5.2 is they way to go

Late to this thread, but I agree. The subs in the Def Tech's just don't do it for me.

And for $5K for the 2 main speakers only. IMO I would be looking over here at these.
