DD,DTS isnt HiRes and i just havent read that any HiRes would be on the DVD side so this is news to me. Heck,i havent read that DTS would be used.
DTS and DD is not "HiRes" per DVD-A and SACD specifications, but is higher resolution than CD quality.

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying here, but if you're implying that DD and DTS are a "higher resolution" than CD, you're wrong. Both DD and DTS are compressed formats, much like a high-bitrate mp3.

Well, my NIN With Teeth Dual Disc has DVD-A tracks on it, as well as I believe Dolby Digital 5.1 on the DVD side. What I was trying to say is these are all compatible with the DVD side; that doesn't mean all of them will be on there.

The Peter Gabriel 'Play' DVD I have supposedly " might be the first DVD music video with DTS 96/24 high-resolution audio", according to Home Theater Magazine. I've actually read this touted elsewhere as well.

So a cd/dvd-a DualDisc would be the same as a SACD Hybrid kinda. I thought the purpose of DualDisc was for the main stream to be able to use it on what most already have,a DVD player or in your car? DVD-A defeats that.

On the only DualDisc I've purchased to this point, NIN's 'Downward Spiral', this is directly from the back jacket:

"dvd side:

the downward spiral digitally remixed and remastered in stereo and 5.1 surround sound

high resolution stereo and surround playback on dvd-audio players

dolby digital stereo and surround playback on standard dvd players"

So, essentially, this is an attempt to allow for maximum compatibility, I suppose... -TD

I have one and the cd side sounds as good as the DD side sounds plain for 5.1. I'd be interested in a DTS to try.

They were trying to capture what SACD had already done and done better. The problem with DVD-A is that very few systems ("normal" systems) outside of the home are not DVD-A or even DVD-V capable, so the discs are not as widely desirable due to the fact that they are not easy to use everywhere you go. Hybrid SACDs can be played on basically any player that can play a CD, though only at CD resolution for a non-SACD capable player.

The main problem with Dual Disc - the thickness. I've experienced this first hand with With Teeth - my car CD player, DVD and PC all played it fine, but my SACD player destroyed the disc instantly (fortunately Best Buy replaced it). The disc is not compatible with 100% of all players, and nearly all manufacturers have issued some kind of warning about this potential so be aware of it.

I can't say I've actually seen a Dual Disc with a DTS track on it yet, but many DVD-As also include a DTS track, like the Porcupine Tree DVD-As.

Hehe, the Waters reference wasn't aimed at anyone in particular Shokhead, it was aimed at all of us...the consumers. I silently scoffed at those who suggested that the newer technology hi-rez discs were mainly a ploy to get us to buy many of the same discs yet again. But the more I think about it........ I mean, do you know how many different formats I have bought DSOTM on? Let's see, LP (3x), MFSL LP, cassette, 8track, cd, MFSL cd, and SACD...and that doesn't include various bootleg goodies I've picked up along the way. And I know I couldn't hold a candle to many in the hardcore camp.

Just in the hi-rez format, DVD-A's and SACD's we have a wide variety of subformats - SACD hybrid, MC, stereo only, mono. DVD-A's, same deal - stereo, MC, DTS, and Dual Disk with just as many subformats that only serves to confuse further...

Been there starting with,gulp,4-track and on. I was very excited when i first started hearing about multi-channel but now its just like cd's,got to be mixed right or it can be HiRes to the heavens and sound like crap. I have to say i've had the best luck with DTS.
