First post for an HT Nut

First let me say HI!

I've been reading these forums for a while. Just thought I'd finally say something.

I'm an avid HT nut with an interest in the technology as much as the excitement the outcome can produce. I'm an EETech by degree, but an IT guy for money.

A little about my setup:
Receiver: Yamaha VX-750
DVD: Toshiba (something or other... progressive scan)
TV: Sony Wega 32"
CDChanger: Sony 300 disc changer
Speakers:consist of Pioneer bookshelves for center and center rear, small sony bookshelves for sides. Left and right front were built by a coworker that was an audio engineer for 10 years... they were the last set he designed and had built before leaving the company. Sub is a 12" sony.

Only bad part is the setup is in a smallish apartment. It was next to impossible to find a place to put the sub where it wasn't either non-existant or boomy... heh, don't turn the stereo up and walk into the bathroom, you'll get a headache.

I am nice to the neighbors though. I only "truely" enjoy the system during the afternoon or right after work. Once it's dark I turn it down.

So again, Just saying HI!

12" sub, small aprtment, neighbors YIKES:eek: Start saving your lunch money now and get yourself a house...then truly get addicted to audio equipment. I just wish I could afford my taste! When you are turning your volume down I turn mine up as my wife leaves for work at 9:30pm....then I fall asleep at 10 LOL!:)

I have a 12" sub in my small appartment as well and I am sure my neighbors hate me. Suprisingly enough it wasn't that hard to find a place for the sub. OH and WELCOME to the boards. It's truly a wonderful place to hang out

lol.
Reading your post brought back some great memories of living in an apartment and being a HT nut. At the time I had a HTiB with a small overachieving 8" ff sub that just drove my neighbors nuts. I don't miss those days of not being able to "crank it up" but it sure was amusing at the time to see the look on their face when you tried to explain to them that THAT sound came out of THOSE little speakers.

Good luck!
P.S. have you tried buying or renting a home?

I thought about getting into a house, but my other passion is my Harley-Davidson Softail. It eats up the rest of my funds each month.

My neighbors actually like the bike more than the HT. I came home from work yesterday in the car and my neighbor told me he was late for work because his "alarm" didn't go off that morning. I guess he was late again today, because when I walked out the door it was raining, and I didn't feel like putting on the rain suit.

I did have a friend over the other night. She walks in and hands me a cd, "Put this in your cd changer." she says. "I want to hear what it's 'supposed' to sound like." I put it in, turn it on, bump up the volume just a tad (9 o'clock at night). She sits on the couch in the "good" spot (grrrr. that's where 'I' sit). Half way through the first song she goes, "I didn't think it sounded right at home." It was a live concert cd of a symphony.

I do plan on getting a house somewhat soon, but I need a raise from work first... and to pay off some CCs.

Welcome to the forums guy. I too remember coming into HT my first year in college, living in the "student ghetto". I'm sure I drop my neighbors crazy, as I was also into Car Stereo as well. A little bit older now, have a kid so I chose to keep the HT, and reduce the Car Stereo madness.

Once you get your own spot where you can have a dedicated spot, you are going to love it! I didn't get mine until about 2 years ago. I only wish I would have done it sooner.
