Hello everyone i was wondering if anyone could help me out im trying to piece together a budget home theater system. Im currently in college so i don't want to spend a ton im looking at getting a LCR speaker setup for around 300 wondering what your suggestions would be.

I have already picked up the dayton 10" 125 watt sub from parts express.
And i am looking at buying the Onkyo TX-SR703

I was looking at the athena closeouts at audio advisior

The Ls-100 bookshelf's and the matching center $200

Or a similar setup from The Speaker Company $140 (anyone ever had any luck with them)

Or maybe fluance speakers ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks So much Kyle

Well if I was in your position I would skip the center speaker and put all the money into the mains. I think in that price range a phantom center is going to be just about as good. Plus the difference between $200 and $300 mains would be significant enough that I would go without the center. And in the $300/pr price range I would probably go with the Ascend CBM-170 SE which are on sale right now.

If you don't want to go that route, then the Athena speakers would be a good choice though I would suggest the LS-300 towers over the bookshelves, which with the matching center would come out to $300.

Any of the above speaker will be a good choice. If you are just getting the LCR speakers, also consider BIC Acoustech or Venturi as your front 3 and would be close to your price range also. A lot of great reviews on these speakers.

As for Fluance, getting a 5.0 for $300 is a LOT of speaker for the price. Don't get me wrong, it's not going to blow you away like Rockets, Paradigm, MA but for $300 and sounds better than "most" HTiB. Can't beat that. I wish I had that option when I first purchased my Pioneer System for $800 back in the early '90s. From my research, it is an excellent buy to get by until you can upgrade. Fluance's biggest weakness is the center but it still offers a lot for the money.

Have you consider HSU:

Or move your budget a little more and get the svs without sub.
